Sometimes I look around at my friends and the people around me at school and I get so frustrated.Sometimes I think they are so ungrateful. My friends are all legal yet they are too lazy to work. When they are afford jobs they just never show up.And at school some kids take for granted that financial aid covers there tuition that they dont even care what their grades are as long as its a 2.0.If these people only knew what we have to go through.I bust my ass at school to get the best grades thinking it ill get me somewhere but it doest seem to be getting me anywhere.Im sacred that I will graduate college and get a degree that in my case will e useless.I have been stressing about getting a job and it just seems impossible.Im even starting to think this Dream Act is bullshit.I hope its not getting everyone's hopes up just to dissapiont everyone. How are you guys feeling about this honestly? Please help me think more positive

Brenda, I can totally empathize with you. I just graduated with honors from a Big Ten university, and I'm sitting at home doing nothing. My friends are all moving on to new things (jobs, grad school, traveling). Certainly there are days where I feel like things can't get any worse. And maybe they can't. But they can get better. I understand your feelings. I look at some of my friends who could give a rat's ass about anything. It really pisses me of since they are so blessed but they don't know what they have. It's OK to feel that way sometimes. But don't let that get to you. Consider this: 2007 could possibly be the year that DREAM passes. There are signs that point to something positive coming out of this new session. We can hang on just a little while longer can't we? We've come this far already. There is only one thing for certain at this moment: we still have some waiting to do. The time would pass a lot quicker if we just try to stay focused and not let ourselves become a victim of our circumstance.

I'm sure you have a lot of talents. Try to tap in to them in the meantime. I've learned to do web design, and I'm doing a few jobs here and there. At the same time I'm applying to law school. I'm really just trying to keep myself busy. I'm not saying that I'm impervious to this whole situation, but I just keep telling myself that we're so close. Is this delirium? Perhaps, but honestly, I'll take it since it is one of the only things that is keeping me sane. Just hang on. Concentrate your efforts on making sure DREAM passes sooner than later. We know how you feel. Just know that you're not alone. Hope that helps.

I am interested in web design for a hobby... how much time have you invested so far?

I started in 2002. I'm proficient in design, but I'm planning on taking classes on some of the more technical aspects of websites (databases, ecommerce, etc.). If you really love designing, you'll find you'll be spending a lot of stuff in front of the computer

We can try and squeez something positive out of the situation too. For example, sometime I wonder what my character would be like if I didnt have to shovel through the whole immigration bullshit for as far as I can remember. Before even coming to the US I remember the problems my family had to face trying to come here. If we didnt have to go through these experiences, would we be the same people who sit on their ass without caring about tomorrow, just because we think "eh, im gonna be fine, whats the worst that could happen"? I think its entirely possible. Would I want to be like that, but documented? There isnt an easy answer, for me at least. I think this experience really defines us to some degree. I can say without a slightest glimpse of uncertainty that I am stronger as a human being as a result of this situation. I can deffinitely say that am stronger than people who dont achieve just because they dont have to. And so can you, wherever we end up.

Thanks for making me feel a lot better everyone. I usually more optimistic but then I go through phases ,like the one I’m in now where I feel hopeless. All of you are right though. And I do have to agree that I think I am a more grateful and hard working person just because I grew up in my situation.
