I am recently filling out the AMCAS to apply to medical schools after being accepted by DACA. I also got my license and Im happy. Anyone else going through the process and any thoughts. Im worried if they will consider only citizens and permanent residents over us.

From what I've heard (around the internet), undocumented students have indeed attended medical school. I'm not sure if DACA recipients are eligible to apply to schools that only accept US citizens and permanent residents.

There are about 55 schools that accept international students. Many of them do not provide any type of institutional aid/scholarships to international students. Some of the schools require either 4 years or 2 years worth of cost in an escrow account.

However, there are some schools that will give institutional aid/merit scholarships to international students. As you can imagine, many of those schools are extremely competitive.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats? Do you have an mdapplicants profile?

I heard that the new apps at least for CA schools now include the DACA option when you are checking residency.

In 98% of the schools, USC and LPR are given priority over international students (those without USC or LPR). To my knowledge, the only school that has changed any rules for medical school is Loyola Stritch in Chicago.

In short, very difficult road ahead of you my friend. In the small chance you are admitted, you will likely have to come up with ~200k in tuition in escrow upfront. Not to mention living costs. Best of luck!

2 of my friends here just got in. Look for programs were you serve low income communities.

If you are not in CA then it might be difficult because you would not be under AB540 too.

Wait they got in a med school undocumented and that too in Cali? Pretty impossible unless they are geniuses.

Nah dude. One has TPS she had already been rejected X2 and the other one just got DACA but just married a USC so she will be a Resident soon. Also rejected X2 and then on one of their FB I saw someone post saying that Medical schools are now including DACA as an option that you can check. They applied to those programs were like you agree to serve low-income people or something like that....

Have you checked out this website?
http://www.phdreamers.org/about-us/o...sion-vision-2/

It's a network of dreamers trying to get into medical school or PhD programs. You might find information or ask around that might help you out.

Thanks for the link! I have been looking for something like that site now. I often feel like the only dreamer working her ass off to go to get into med school.

Op, I haven't taken the mcat yet, but I have started studying for it.

T hose of you who might be taking the MCAT in 2015, note that the format of the test will change then. Or at least, there will be social science topics and more biochem on the 2015 version.

Anyway, medical school acceptance and matriculation can be difficult no matter what situation you are in.

Good luck! I will be applying next summer I am studying for the MCAT now. And yes I agree Medical School is very competitive not matter what situation and for us of course things are more complicated, but I am hopeful that more medical schools would follow on Loyola's footsteps. We do have many unique characteristics and experiences which would help us and make us great candidates. so good luck to everybody applying!
