Yes, apparently the US federal system is quite slow, newly assigned SS numbers might take upto a year to get in to the system (according to another dreamer in the forum who called to check).

It is the reason why many of us got denied of credit cards, no credit/ss number in the system.

I think you could TRY to call the three credit check companies to ask them to add your number manually. You might have to send in photocopies of your ssnumber and EAD.

I called the companies, they said they have nothing to do with that sort of thing, and I'd have to call the SSN office ...

I had this problem too after having my SSN for 3 MONTHS. Anyways, applying in person should solve your problem.

Reread your post. I guess applying to places that have paper copies of their application?

Doesn't it suck that they give us a work permit for 2 years, and it could take months or a year for the SSN to get in the system? They should make up for that time since it is causing us trouble haha. It's like "here you go, but it doesn't work yet".

Today I went to reapply with citibank for a credit card, I got denied the first time because my ssn was so new, that it couldn't be verified by computer because it wasn't in any database yet. That's the trouble I was having when applying for anything requiring the verification of my ssn. I explained that to the banker and she took a copy of my ssn and said she'd try to override any blocks that happen because it's so new. Either way, you could try explaining this to anyone who needs to verify your social, because either way, it's legit. I find it helped to explain the situation, or I would have just been denied and that would be that, so maybe in the future it'd help you guys too (if your socials are taking a while to show up on the credit bureaus).
