The other day, I went to my community college to change my rates to in-state tuition. Over the phone, they told me that all I needed was some proof that I have lived here for over two years and my SSN. When I got there, the lady in admissions told me that she cannot do anything for me because I am not a permanent resident here despite me having the work permit and an SSN. She insisted that I am only in America to work and nothing else. I was really mad because I have been paying out-of-state for years and years and I can't afford it anymore. I tried to explain to her that with deferred action, I can stay here for two years and more since it is renewable. She continued to be rude and I just gave up.

Before I go on to other colleges and applying, are all VA colleges like this or did I just get stuck with some real jerks? I'm really hoping some colleges in the state help out immigrants and will grant in-state rates for DACA beneficiaries.

You cannot have in-state tuition in VA.

A little about me: I go to NOVA and I pay out of state and I am still waiting for my EAD.

There are some instances that other people mentioned that you can get it after a year of holding your EAD or if you get a compassionate person, but by law we cannot benefit from such perks as federal scholarships like FAFSA or pay in-state.

You can however get lucky and talk to a nice individual who would help you get in-state, also I heard some universities allows undocumented pay in-state.

Bummer.
Do you know any schools in VA that will give in-state?

and is it true that George Mason is one of those schools that is nice enough to help out immigrants and give in-state tuition?

Mason Alumni here. I, by some gracious act of God, did get the in-state tuition rate while I attended. I'm not sure whether I met the requirements or if the person processing my paper work was having a good day. My theory is that they didn't look too much into it since I had an SSN (which I know a lot of people lacked before DACA)

I can promise that I filled out the form with complete honesty.

Also another thing to keep in mind is that 2 other schools I applied to, JMU and West Virginia, did ask for further proof of legal residency.
