I just found out about this site a few days ago....I was so glad to find a place where people would understand me. I don't talk about this issue with anyone and none of my friends know that I am illegal. Its good to know that there are others that feel as fed up and frustrated about this issue and that they want to do something about it.
This is basically my story: My parents brought me here when I was two years old from Mexico City, they were looking for better opportunities and a better future for us. We arrived in Houston, TX without any money and without knowing anyone. My parents worked very hard to provide me, and my brother and sister who were later born here, with the best they could offer. They encouraged me and taught me that an education was important and that I could achieve my dreams if I work hard enough. I always tried to do my best in school and I was able to succeed academically. Then when I was a junior in high school it hit me that I was not like my peers. I could not drive, because I could not get a license, I could not travel, I could not legally work, and worst of all I was afraid that I would not be able to go to college....and this was what hit me the hardest, I felt so angry that I knew I deserved the chance to go to college but that it might not be up to me but up to a few old men in Washington. I was depressed for a while,.... but then I realized that I'll only live once, and if these were the cards life had dealt me, then I had to make the most of it. My senior year I spent every free moment I had finding information and knocking on doors. Many doors were shut in my face, but I found a few people that were willing to help me. I found out about the Dream Act and HB 1403, which in Texas allowed me to pay in-state tuition, and most importantly I was able to receive scholarships, something that I thought would be almost impossible. Now I am 21, a senior at UH and majoring in Biology. I'm glad that I am able to express how I feel... I hope that this site will allow us to reach our goals, and I'm sure that we can all help each other out, please feel free to reply and comment or if there are any questions I'll be happy to answer them. Thank You.

Hey Ramador, I came from Mexico City as well... well I technically lived in the Estado de Mexico, very close to the DF.

Your story mirrors my story in many ways... it hit me hard too when I was a junior in high school. Fortunately I was able to attend college and now I am back where I used to be back in senior year...

What's next for you?

Welcome aboard to DAP!

Hey Abaddon,
Thanks for replying...whats next for me? I'm going to apply for medical school in Dallas so I can specialize in Prosthetics. I want to finish this and then hopefully when I have to go through residency for school this whole immigration issue will be resolved and I can work, if not, then I'm thinking I might try and find a prosthetics job in Mexico, but who knows where life will take me. What are your plans?
