Hi everyone! I just joined the forum a few days ago and this site is really a good way to keep eachother going through this...but it seems like since we all kind of expected DREAM to be voted on this past week, everyone has slowly been losing enthusiam and hope as the days have passed and also that now we know DREAM won't be attached to the Defense bill and will likely be a stand alone. ANYWAY..I was thinking this could realllyyy be our chance guys. I know a few people have mentioned that we try to get someone like Oprah to talk about it and I think that's a good idea. Calling senators in support of DREAM is good but we need a platform to voice our true side of the story. Oprah is known for advocating eductaion and has a wide audience that take time to listen to what she has to say. We are genuine children/ young adults just trying to make good of our lives and I dont see why we shouldnt(no matter what) reach for our voices to be heard in an honest way. I know it's a stretch but if we can do it, it will open eyes to see the realities of this matter and will make people see how much of a difficult position we are in...regardless of the fact that yes, we are for the most part undocumented but also, we are here not by choice and the majority of us only wanting to make something of our lives like any other American born and/or raised child would. Maybe am just being too optimistic but I think if we put some effort into it(Oprah...or whoever else can give us a platform to express our position) we can get someone out there to change their mind about us and see life through our eyes. Even if after we try and DREAM still doesnt get anywhere, atleast we'll know that we tried and we'll have pride enough in ourselves knowing we fought for a chance to attain a better life.

Please give opinions on what you think.

okay, i know a few of you guys on this forum emailed oprah already with no response right? first off, do we at least have two articulate good speakers who isnt camera shy, and doesnt crack under pressure?? if we do (which im sure), i think i have a good idea. it might be a long shot, but i think its WAY easier than trying to contact oprah by email...

How about we find out who's a radio/tv major with a camera? I can't do it yet cuz I'm still freshman. That's coming in like 2-3 years. But if I could, I'd get a few people, a camcorder, and start making a... lets say... documentary. Then put on the fancy stuff to make it look all nice and send it off to Oprah. Then we start spreading it around, sending it to talk shows, etc... Iono if this will work. It might be a stupid idea.

Check the formats of each Oprah program... They're all like magazine-related stuff. It's not very political but I guess we can try.

OoOo! The documentary thing is a great idea but there's the whole fear thing..and the distance between most of us...am on the East coast .. I looked at the formats of the shows...how about under "What matters to you?"...I sent the producers a "show idea" note/email yesterday..not a gaurantee they'll even get to it since so many people write to the show...so we have to keep writing the producers also..but am really liking the documentary idea alot..hmm

look what we need to do with the media is used it but not as story teller of a dreamers life.... what i seen more effective in my time i been working with immigration is that we used the media when we go to visit a congressman/woman office with 50/100 voters from that district, we need to start hitting the streets.... word of mouth.... ask local people and get them to support you.... i know that’s hard because people love to ask personal questions, and some people just don’t care.... but i believe we need to get out from that stand of us being scare what others think.... and move with how can we make a real impact on this issue.... sometimes is better the old fashion way... door to door, face to face

door to door is good but people are crazy..lol..epescially if you mention "immigration"...they almost want to be immune to the word almost....great idea though...I also just thought about like getting in touch with a journalist from a respectable newspaper and getting an interview piece?..that way it will be getting to the people from trusted sources..and nobody has to be afraid of showing themself..???...to me, I feel like although we could keep calling and officals are promising that DREAM will likely pass, we on the other hand need a platform because we have to show we actually want DREAM to pass by somehow getting our voices heard...

Door-to-Door and taking to the streets is not going to work. You think we are the only DREAM Act advocates. Hundreds of grassroots organizations have taken to the streets and gone door-to-door, tons of them in NY and the press has given absolutely zero coverage to them. People don't care if it doesn't affect them directly.

i know i am part of many of those groups .... well what i actually mean is to go to your congressman/woman to their offices with supporters of dream that are constituents of that district .... that will actually make a statement... and is meaningful .... i did that last year and we got our congressman to vote yes here in MA
