Obama To House On Immigration: If You Have Ideas, 'Let's Hear Them'

He reminded Congress that the Senate bill is another means of improving the economy along with a budget and passing the farm bill. There is a clip of the news conference on the source page.

IMO, the only way an immigration bill will make it at this point is if Boehner's truly done pandering to the Tea Party. But, that doesn't seem likely. A discharge petition is impossible with that recent rule change and the Republicans are still licking their wounds over the shutdown.

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama vowed Thursday to restart his push for comprehensive immigration reform this year after a bruising fight on government spending that only increased bad blood between the two parties.

"The majority of Americans think this is the right thing to do, and it's sitting there waiting for the House to pass it," he said during remarks from the White House. "Now if the House has ideas on how to improve the Senate bill, let's hear them. Let's start the negotiations. But let's not leave this problem to keep festering for another year, or two years, or three years."

"This can and should get done by the end of this year," he added.

Obama and immigration reform advocates have insisted there's still time and the will to pass reform, even though House Republicans are showing little interest in doing so. After the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration bill in June, reform stalled in the house when House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) vowed not to pick it up, regardless of likely support from most Democrats and some Republicans. Instead, the House GOP vowed to pass piecemeal measures -- with no talk of a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants -- that have now faded from attention.

Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) said Wednesday that the government shutdown and debt ceiling fight may have killed immigration reform in the House for good.

"For us to go to a negotiation, to the negotiating table with President Obama after what he has done over the last two and a half weeks, I think would be probably a very big mistake," he told The Huffington Post.

Obama told Univision affiliate 34 KMEX on Tuesday that immigration reform would be a top priority after the government reopened and a debt catastrophe was averted.

"Once that’s done, you know, the day after I’m going to be pushing to say, call a vote on immigration reform," Obama said. "And if I have to join with other advocates and continue to speak out on that, and keep pushing, I’m going to do so because I think it’s really important for the country. And now is the time to do it."

During the Thursday remarks, Obama listed immigration as one of three things that could help the economy, along with dealing with the budget and passing a farm bill.

Obama has already endorsed the Senate bill, but he sung its praises again during the speech.

"There's already a broad coalition across America that's behind this effort of comprehensive immigration reform, from business leaders to faith leaders to law enforcement," he said. "In fact, the Senate has already passed a bill with strong bipartisan support that would make the biggest commitment to border security in our history, would modernize our legal immigration system, make sure everyone plays by the same rules, make sure that folks who came here illegally have to pay a fine, pay back taxes, meet their responsibilities. That bill has already passed the Senate."

Pretty much.

They say they hate the Senate bill, but have yet to produce anything of substance. He's trying to get them to the table, but we all know it's not happening. The GOP never had any intention of passing an immigration bill out of the House. At least not a bill that would improve our quality of life.

Lets hope for expanded DACA, or a Democrat strategy that ousts Republican majority from the House, and then hopefully soon after passing CIR/DA with flying colors.

Whats also funny is, I believe Luis Gutierrez predicted a 2015 passage, and I believe he was also one of the guys who said something great was coming before DACA was announced.

Luis may not be able to do much on his own to help pass CIR/DA, but he seems to be subtly revealing hints at what will be happening in the future.

Under this Democratic Party administration, there are more and more thefts on a daily basis.

He wasn't predicting, I don't think; he was disclosing what the plan 'was' at that point. I say 'was' because he recently published a book and did interviews on it in which he 'lamented' that the CIR movement had demobilized during the first part of the year and that Obama hadn't stopped deportations. Unfortunately for him, with accurate research, there were plenty of other interviews and articles in which he discouraged activism against the White House and Dem party while he was just a few more days, weeks, months, next Monday, by Friday, from releasing his infamous 'House gang of 8 bill'. Omg, hahahhahaha, what a f* joke. He might be Hispanic, he might be a Democrat, but before those two is his livelihood as a politician, and as such, he has misled and told quite a few porkies himself. Just because he says something, doesn't make it so, he's done a bit of two-face lying as well. 10 Pinocchios to him.

Just get to work and get stories from REAL undocumented immigrants, don't go asking Frank Sharry from America's Voice what the hell he thinks we should get. Frank Sharry, if you happen to stumble upon my rant in here, let me tell you, you know nothing about my circumstances, my history, my family or my life. I'm sick of these clowns salivating for $$$ from the feds and lining themselves up for a political career after CIR passes. Wolf in sheep clothing.

Also, the Senate bill needs additional work, it is not realistic that people will need to wait a year before they can begin to apply for work authorization. People can get injured, lose their employment, want to leave abusive employers behind, buy property, enroll in shool, become parents, etc. Also, people with a final order of removal, but whom DHS chose no to remove, including DACA individuals, will need to pay thousands to attorneys to reopen their cases and terminate. Just exactly, which Einstein came up with the idea of thousands clogging up the immigration courts with cases to reopen when they will clearly be eligible to earn status? Never mind, I have to research it. Thousands that can go to catching up on their tax debts, if they have them, or purchasing healthcare.

Oh, oh, and don't even get me started on access to healthcare. Stop telling other humans that they can insure their piece of metal on four wheels, but God forbid, they should need to purchase healthcare. Alright, time to go before I get riled up.

Under Romney's Republican Party administration you will be made to "self deport" when DACA runs out, that's supposed to be better than these alleged thefts?
