Mike Huckabee's campaign website says he is against the DREAM Act. He opposes it on the grounds that it would give amnesty to illegal immigrants and reward them for unlawful behavior.
Yet a couple of weeks ago, Huckabee appeared on an interview saying that he supports in-state tuition for undocumented children and that children shouldn't be punished for their parents mistake. This is a reflection of his faith because he alluded to Christian morality and ethical values in defending his position.

Mike Huckabee, as governor of Arkansas, did propose a bill that would provide in-state tuition to undocumented children who graduated from Arkansas high schools and satisfied other Arkansas residency requirements. He is a very strong supporter of education for all children.

My question:, If he is elected President, will he support Sen. Hutchinson's version of the DREAM Act, namely to give a 5 year visa to students?

^If you look at his record he seems really anti immigration but look closely and notice that he mostly supports enforcement measures.

He strongly supports the law BUT he thinks the law should reflect traditional values. He already said that he doesn't think it's realistic to deport everyone here illegally.

Overall I think he's for a fair reform that would have zero tolerance for bad behavior.

The Governor opposes and will never allow amnesty. He passionately rejected the amnesty bill that President Bush and Sen. McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer after secret meetings of an under-the-radar cabal of amnesty-loving senators.

The Governor opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which was a nightmare because it would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all. Because once we open that door even a crack, we’ll never get it closed again.

He's against the Dream Act??!! I thought he was for it when he appeared on the Situation Room. Oh well, more Republicans bowing to their xenophobic base .

I still think all his anti-immigration talk is to help his campaign get votes from the conservative Republicans. We'll only know what his policies are when he gets elected (if he gets elected). But still, he's better than all the rest of the Republicans (except Giuliani). Alipac hates Huckabee.

WAIT A SECOND

Something is wrong here. I googled this and I see a whole bunch of conservative sites praising Huckabee for anti-immigration action BUT if you look in the Lounge in my thread on Huckabee you see HIS QUOTES saying something completely different. I'm not sure what's going on here.

According to that video, he first wants to secure the borders. Than he wants to deport or put in jail the undocumented that have criminal records After all that, he would deal with the rest. He said they would have to pay a fine and than he would give them the choice to self deport or to " undertake the process of legal citizenship" ( whatever that might be)

Huckabee is really a socially conservative but practical Republican. He advocates for securing our borders and stronger interior enforcement, which really is agreeable to both conservatives and liberals alike. However, he is very cognizant of the plight of undocumented students and doesn't advocate deporting them after years of education and assimilation into American society. I don't think that his positions are contrary. He can certainly support the DREAM Act for its fundamental premise and then also advocate stronger borders. I think that Huckabee would definitely approve of Hutchinson's visa compromise. Huckabee would also probably support a more stringent path to citizenship for long term residents.

Hmm... Where have I heard that before...???

I don't trust this guy. It seems that he's just trying to please the very conservative Republicans, and puting aside his real feelings on the issue.
