HELLO!

I have been going through threads, and looking at peoples responses to Secured CCs.

How do you find the right Secured CC for you, would a Secured be best to open? Do you go on interests or where you get approved?

I FINALLY got my SSN in the mail 2 weeks ago, and I have been looking into getting a secured CC with my bank (Citibank). I also looked into the Capitol One, which everyone keeps mentioning on here. I wanted to apply for the USAA Secured CC since it beats Citi and CapitalOne hands down, and it had great perks! (My fiance has USAA, so yes I can apply for it if I wanted to.

I applied for the Capitol One CC, online. It says they coulndn't approve it or would write me a letter stating why it couldn't go through.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I've only applied once for one card, should I go to the branch? The only reason why I applied only is because Capitol One your security deposit is $49, $99, or $200 depending on your approval, BUT if I open the card at the Branch it HAS to be $200.

Has anyone in the past few weeks or month, been approved to the Capitol One CC? Should I try Citi?
I also looked into B0A but idk about that card. lol

Any information, comments, suggestions would be APPRECIATED.

Try Citi and Discover, some of us without SSN have gotten credit from them. Also, make sure to open a bank accounts (savings/checking), that has allowed some people to get credit cards from the bank easier.

I have a checking & savings account with CitiBank and a Checkings with Capitol One.

I am going to look into Discover. Thanks.
The one thing i liked about CapitalOne is that they security deposit was lower than CitiBank and you still got a $200 limit. With Citi, you get the Limit you deposit.

Thanks.

Remember not to be requesting credit very often, that might lower your score. Also, try to have your balances be less than 30%.

Yeah, of course. I know not to request often. I've only applied for Capital One CC onces online, I might go to the branch to open the CC there. So it might be my 2nd time, I started looking at Discover, and idk why I hadn't looked at it before.

Thank you.

I have the Capital One secured Mastercard and after six months ( last saturday) my credit limit got an unsecured raise of $100.

As compared with the card my relative has (Wells Fargo secured card) He's been with it longer than me and is still at $400 since he first opened it.

Avoid secure credit cards like a plague if you can, if you can't then its fine too. But try getting a discovery student card

I used to advocate capital one cc but avoid it if you can. It was my first credit card and they gave me a $500 limit. 3 months later they raised it to $750. I've had the card for around 4years now and it's STILL $750. I got a car recently and the salesman pointed out that the low limit on my oldest card was a negative even though all of my other cards are above $5000. CapOne is stingy with credit limit increase and I even called to complain about it. The very nice lady on the phone said she has the exact same card for slightly longer period and her's is the same.

THANK YOU for everyone's input!

I applied for the Discover it card, and I was approved with a $500 limit! I much rather have the $500 limit than the $200 security deposit from Capital One.

Thank you everyone! I think I will stick with one CC for now, while I build up some good credit.

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!
