Update: I sent the w2 form and got the job!! Problem resolved.

Hi,

So, a few days ago, I applied to a job in IKEA with the new valid SSN and EAC which I got from DACA.

Today, I received an email from IKEA notifying me that they were doing background checks. The IKEA HR lady asked if I could send her my W2 form from my previous job for "employment verification purposes". They need this because I've told them I have experience in retail, which is true, and they really want to hire me because of this.

The only problem is that at my last job (BJ's Wholesale Club), I worked with a fake SSN, and the W2 shows it clear as day.

Should I send the W2 form anyway? Or should I tell them I don't have it?

I'm not sure what to do.

I really want to get this job. Currently, I've put them on hold. They're still waiting for me to "find" my W2 form. I thought about blurring the SSN out, but that would make them ask even more questions, I think.

What do you guys think? Send it in? Or no?

I don't think you're in a good position either way.

1) You send it in with the blurred SNN (probably your best option)

2) Even if you don't send it in, the background check will most likely not show your retail experience since the SNN you used is not associated with you.

Pick your poison. maybe bullshit them that you got a new ssn, but then they'll think your new one is fake.

Just say you got a new ssn. Most of my banks thought identify theft was the reason why I was updating my ssn.

Honestly, I would not make up some BS about getting a "new SSN." That is the freakin last resort of a major identity theft. Don't go lying about that. Because nobody here knows what type of information is stored under one's SSN. What if you say it is stolen and they pull up your SSN and find no records whatsoever about it being generated as a new SSN because the previous one was stolen? I think this is a tough situation for you man. This is a tough one man...Does the W2 at least have an ITIN on it? Because I have seen individuals with ITINs get W2's with SSN's on it. Sry man..I can't think of a fix right now...

Well in my case it was technically a "new" SSN because I was updating my ITIN. I didn't have to make anything up. Banks just assumed it even if I didn't say anything. A lot of time people will think whatever they want and doesn't bother to question it.

Something else you can probably do is say you were paid in cash. When I had to do my background check my recruiter said it doesn't matter if I was paid cash as long as I list EVERYTHING. I don't know how picky ikea is but you can always provide HR with the name and number of your employer.

Too late for that. OP already told Ikea that the w2 is "lost" and s/he is trying to "find" it. At this point the Ikea HR will most likely get suspicious of foul play if OP suddenly says s/he was paid in cash and turn down any offers they may have had in mind.

Well guys, I ended up sending the w2 form to IKEA. I just finally said whatever and sent it as it is. If they want to hire me, they will. If not, oh well.

Just thought I'd end this thread on a good note: I got the job!

The decision to send the w2 form was definitely worth it.

Alright, thanks for all your suggestions and help guys. Bye!
