i was using AVG, the free edition and it was working great,a couple of quirks but it was running pretty smooth although it expired so i went out and bought mcafee, virus scan; for some reason, it slows down, my comp ,and my internet connection. so does anyone know of any anti-virus program that doesn't do what Mcafee does, either free or if i had to buy it at the store, i don't care, just let me know what your suggestions are...

Avast is free and it works great Nod32 and kaspersky are the best imo.
Nod32 doesn't use much memory so it wont slow down your PC.

Why don't you just uninstall AVG, download the latest edition an reinstall?

They only make the software expire to force the user to update the software to the latest version?

Yep ^ those guys are right. Nod 32 FTW!!!

The newest version of nod has a new UI. Getting a just a tad more bloated. Btw kasperksy sucks, and mcaffee sucks. Avg I have not had too much luck with so I do not recommend it. Yes like Someguy mentioned, uninstalling and reinstalling your antivirus trial versions, usually works. I know it works for nod and a few others.

I notice that trial versions of programs are usually better than free programs. They give better scans and catch more threats IMO.

If you look around your uni's website, you might be able to get anti virus and other software for free.
