Hello,

I'm currently applying to Graduate School. I have a question under the graduate school application form section of citizenship. There are options asking our citizenship/status.
1. Are you a U.S. citizen? (obviously no)
2. Are you a permanent resident of the U.S? (Yes or No) (are they taking about Green Card holder?)
3. Then if not U.S citizenship or Permanent resident, please complete the following:
If accepted to the university, will you need student visa? (obviously No)
If No, indicate your visa status you hold or will hold (_ _)

I'm having trouble to fill this out as I'm planning to start my Master's Degree however since DACA is out of status, how could we fill out this citizenship status section of the application form.

Could someone help me on this process if anyone had undergone the same process before and was able to get into Graduate School. I really appreciate any responses.

You need to go to the school. Talk to the administration staff and let them know your status. I'd callthem and ask about DACA. Most well know schools are aware of it. I've read stories posted here of people telling the schools they are illegal here and getting full rides

Where you are applying? When I applied to grad school I listed DACA as a 'visa' type and explained it in the comment section.

I noticed that most of the universities in the Los Angeles or San Francisco metros understood and there wasn't any further problem. And then there were the universities in more rural parts that required me to call or go to the campus to explain my situation. Luckily most Californian universities have someone in the administration who deals with special cases such as ours.

Have you contacted GRADD (Graduates Reaching A Deferred Dream) yet?

Look up Jose Luiz Zelaya on Facebook, he is an immigration activist in Texas and a Ph.D candidate at Texas A&M University- College Station.
