Supreme courts denies Texas 30 day extension

"The Supreme Court moved President Obama a step closer Tuesday to getting a final verdict before leaving office on his plan to protect more than 4 million undocumented immigrants from threatened deportation.
The justices turned down Texas' request for an additional month to respond to the Justice Department's request for a high court hearing, leaving open the chance for a spring showdown over the controversial executive action. Instead, they granted only eight days, demanding a response by Dec. 29. As a result, a decision on whether to hear the case could come in January, soon enough for oral arguments and a decision in the first half of 2016.
The timing is critical to both sides. If the justices take the case and rule in Obama's favor by June, the administration would have seven months to begin implementing the program before the president's term expires. But if the case is pushed to the court's next term, a decision would be unlikely before Obama is replaced -- possibly by a Republican who would end the program before it begins."

Chances are that it will be decided in this Obama's term. Does this mean SC will decide in eDACA favor since they only gave 8 days?

This time around. They are ready to implement it right away? Didn't they hire more people and leased buildings when eDACA was suppose to start earlier this year?

This means 7 months is plenty of time.

The original Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA program Obama set up in 2012 was not challenged in the lawsuit filed by Texas and the other states, but that program would likely fall if the Supreme Court upholds the injunction against his latest round of immigration actions.

Why do some people here think original DACA is untouchable? If the supreme court rules against DACAexpa/DAPA. It will be much easier taking it to the supreme court

Just gotta play the waiting game.

I think it's kind of like death. If your parents are alive, you feel like you have an extra layer of security before it's your time to death and so it's easier not to think about it and tell yourself "it won't happen to me!".

But yeah, until immigration reform is passed, this is probably the single most court ruling on immigration this century. It affects everybody.

This decision is much better than people realize. Courts tend to give more leeway to the side they support in large government vs government cases like this where they known about it for a while and knew it'll reach them eventually, unlike a Joe v Bob case where they first hear about it from certiorari.

Ruling against Texas means that they are mostly against them. Obviously this doesn't mean that Texas is doomed to lose, but we're up for a fair trial outside of Kangaroo courts.

Fun fact: Texas tried this with original DACA in DC court system. They all told them to piss off.
