Can someone interpret this letter for me? I think I understand what it says but I want to make sure before I go off sobbing in a corner.

Dear ,

I appreciate your interest in James Madison University and wanted to inform you that your application for admission was submitted to the Admissions Committee for review. Based on a review of your immigration status, The Office of Admissions at James Madison University would like to request further information.

Please note that your admission is expressly contingent on your obtaining, prior to enrollment, documents reflecting your right to remain in the United States in a category which allows full-time study. For purposes of satisfying this proof of legal presence, JMU requests further documentation with regard to your immigration status.

If you are interested in James Madison University, please contact me so we can discuss your situation and plan for your eventual enrollment at James Madison University. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. You may email scanned documents, or fax them to my attention at 540-568-3332.

Upon receipt and review of further documentation we will complete our review of your application.

Take your name off, the information that you gave is very specific..

What I get from that is that you need to be legal in order to attend.

You really need to take this information off, it is too specific and you are bearing a huge risk by posting it in such a public forum.

Regardless, I don't think the University is barring you from being admitted. I say this because this letter came from the international students admissions director. International students are students who are studying in the United States on student visas such as F-1 and their admissions require certain paperwork on the part of the University. The University is requesting to see this paperwork.

Undocumented students don't really fall into the category of international students. We're sort of in a gray area. If you put yourself down as an International Student in the admissions application, then the University is assuming that you are a foreign student studying here on a student visa.

You need to call this guy, Shaun Mooney and explain your situation to him. I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to attend but financial aid will be a different matter.

I just thought it was weird that they're sending this information now because they've accepted me already in their early action program. I'm even egligible for a music scholarship at their music school...

But honestly, JMU is my backup school, and if they're going to deny me entrance then so be it.

By the way, I didn't know about the risk of posting such specific information. Now I know, so thanks for the warning. I also didn't know how much information I should take off, so I took off my name and the bottom half of the letter.
