Sadly, it has become increasingly clear that the President's words were nothing but lip service. President Trump and the White House are not interested in solving this problem—they have so far tried to use Dreamers as bargaining chips to push forward their anti-immigrant agenda.

Democrats have been at the negotiating table from day one, willing to work with Republicans and the administration to solve this crisis. I personally met with President Trump several times to negotiate a solution only to find that hours later he would back away and move the goal posts to the hard right to satisfy his base, demanding an endless list of extreme measures. He even turned down an agreement that would protect Dreamers in exchange for funding one of his biggest campaign promises -- the wall on the border with Mexico.

While the Supreme Court announced last week that it would not take up the DACA case, meaning that for now DACA recipients are allowed to renew their status, it still falls on Congress and President Trump to provide permanent protection for Dreamers.

The Supreme Court decision helps shield some temporarily but it will not provide the long-term certainty these young people need and deserve. It is still the case that as of March 5 the number of DACA recipients that will fall out of status every day will grow exponentially -- the process of renewal can take months and DACA recipients will lose their ability to work legally and will be subject to deportation during this time.

In addition, many Dreamers who are eligible for DACA cannot apply, given that the injunction does not allow for new individuals who are eligible for the program to enroll.

President Trump, the ball is in your court. You broke it, you fix it. We Democrats have repeatedly offered compromise proposals that both sides should be proud of, but you have stood firmly in the way of progress.

Until you change course, the fate of DACA recipients is in your hands. The American people will know exactly who to blame if you prevent Congress from getting this done.

For the Dreamers' sake, we hope it won't come to that.

You can’t say Democrats didn’t try . Trump and Miller have resisted any bipartisan efforts to fix the issue.

lol.
neo-con cucks agreeing to sign onto a bill doesn't make it bi-partisan.
i'm surprised only cotton raged at dems for trying to slip past that one stupid bill.
a TRUE bi-partisan deal would be citizenship(a republican concession by the way)+ covering 1.8 million(another concession) in exchange for the wall + ending the diversity lottery.

Umm miller and trump won’t agree to anything less than the 4 pillars. Why do you always Refuse to blame or criticize the right people? Are you scared to criticize anti-immigrant republicans or something?

Here is the reasonable thing:

Citizenship for all Dreamers; no age cap, no sponsorship allowed until Dreamers themselves become citizens.

Diversity lottery is less than 1% of permanent residents; give it up.

Reasonable funding for the actual wall only.

It's still a 2:1 deal in favor of Republicans. This situation is Trump's fault. He is breaking families and preventing relief for Dreamers.

This situation is Democratic leadership's fault for not proactively working for a solution for the last 10 years. They outsourced their work, paid by taxpayers like you and me, to activists and the President. Do your job.

This is the Republicans' fault for supporting the worst possible candidate for president. You are all corrupt and now have an enabler in chief to help you destroy American progress and the American middle class. Do your job and then gtfo of Congress.

Your point? You can’t expect democrats and moderate republicans to agree to cut legal immigration in half just because of that do you? I won’t even respond to your post again because you live in a fantasy world.

my point is that you literally thought 4 pillars were strictly a wishlist for trump.
you were wrong, it's okay to admit it.
you don't need to look further than your post history to see what a fantasy world looks like.

I'm just happy daca is in place for now. Is it bad for me to think that, I might as well cut my losses and leave the USA? It kinda excites me when I think about possibilities out side of this country.

Also OP, I feel you man. Block his ass and don't waste your time

Every single discussion involving Democrats involves you arguing simply for the sake of arguing. If you want to bitch and moan about how Democrats need to give Trump his four pillars, make a thread in the other topics section and go to town. No one wants to hear you and unfortunately blocking you doesn’t do much since people feel the need to engage you and quote your bullshit.

"Royce Murray, policy director at immigration nonprofit American Immigration Council, told the Daily Dot that attaching Dreamer-related negotiations to the March 23 deadline on another spending bill may be Congress’ next best opportunity to act. And while previous bills for permanent measures failed, Murray said she thinks there are efforts to reassess Congress’ interest in temporary solutions to at least give Dreamers some assurances for the next few years"

Protect ALL Dreamers in the omnibus and let's focus then on November.
