I wanted to ask if this would hurt me later on. I have a brokerage account with Interactive Brokers and yesterday they asked me to confirm some details about myself and it seems like I chose citizenship in the US as my status when I first made the account which was really long ago. I didn't even realize I did that until they asked me to confirm the details. I've seen on here that people always say not to claim to be a citizen and I have always adhered to that. I just want to know if this will hurt me later on or is it not a big deal because it's just a brokerage account?

Are you sure you chose U.S. Citizen? Or did you choose U.S. Resident?

It said country of citizenship and then had US next to it. I honestly don't even remember putting US.

How about you ask for the form back, edit it and return it? Anyone can make a mistake

If it’s not s claim for federal benefits then it shouldn’t matter. Simply correct it now.

I put U.S. Resident since that is what we're considered as when filing our taxes.

If possible, you can just write down "Authorized to work in US". If they ask more information you can show your EAD.
I was applying for some jobs this week, Amazon, UPS etc... and now they forms contain the following option "US Citizen, Permanent resident, Authorized to work in US". I found that to be really nice as I fall into the third option.

It's wrong to write USC or PR because you are basically lying in order to take advantage of something. Although it's very unlikely the immigration will ever find it, unless it's related to a government job, you should avoid as much as possible. Lying now means that you will have to lie again in front of them- if ever happen - and that's the difficult part.

If you have the opportunity, fix it.
