Hello, fellow Dreamers.
Crazy times we’re living in, huh? I feel like being in (financial) stress most of my life has prepped me for this crazy COVID-19 pandemic. I was just laid off temporarily (I hope), and I’m surprised and not surprised at how calm I’ve been haha. I hope you all stay safe out there and we can get through these weird times together!!

I just had a quick question as to whether we are eligible for unemployment benefits if we have our EAD. There’s no risk involved with us filing for it, right?

Thanks in advance.

According to RAICES, n the state of Texas DACA”s and AED are eligible for unemployment benefits and wouldn’t count against the Public Charge Rule.

Do you happen to know the law for the state of WA?

If we’re eligible in red Texas, am sure Washington state too, however your best bet is to visit your states website for unemployment assistance. If you really need it apply either way.

Thank you. I will try to call the WA state government website tomorrow and see if I can find out.

As far as I know, unemployment comes directly from the taxes the state gets from your employer. It doesn't count a public charge.
