Senate Democrats are rekindling an endeavor to include protections for hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants, a portion of whom are health care workers on the frontline of the pandemic, in future coronavirus relief legislation.

"They risk their families' health to keep us safe," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters on a conference call Tuesday. "Now is the time more than ever that we need to stand with them and protect them during these awful times."

"I think it's showing America how much we need these folks to fight the crisis, and I think that will help us win new support," Schumer said.

The endeavor also comes amid an impending ruling on DACA by the Supreme Court. The nation's highest court is considering the fate of the Obama-era program, which Trump moved to end his first year in office but has so far been blocked by federal judges from accomplishing.

this not going to lead anywhere. urgency is not on their side. esp when conservatives are going to frame that we are holding relief hostage for dreamers

Pure show. Democrats always cave last minute. This is just an attempt for political points.

Miracle if it works. Not wasting my prayers on it.

This is an absolute joke.
Essential workers who are ALL needed right now: health care staff, janitors, grocery workers, environmental services, AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD PROCESSING workers need to be legalized. This is going to affect life for a while. It is time to do both: legalize undocumented and get the workforce on the books that is already doing the work.

Nonetheless is a step in the right direction. Point be said, DACA reputation gets a boost from it and as a result it'll be harder for Trump to deport us.

We need an 'Essential Workforce' immigration bill.
Regardless of age - you work hard, pass criminal background, and are performing essential work to help the country: you get to earn PR.

Simple and it helps undocumented workers accross industries.
