Lawmakers on Wednesday formally introduced legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for young people brought to the U.S. as children ahead of House Democrats’ plan to hold an “immigration week” later this month.

The American Dream and Promise Act would allow the young people known as Dreamers, as well as others given temporary status when fleeing unrest in their home country, to apply for citizenship.

“During the years of the Trump Administration, the vicious targeting of our most vulnerable immigrant communities cultivated a climate of apprehension, uncertainty, and fear. For far too long, Dreamers and others have waited in limbo and lived with the fear of being deported from the only country they know as home,” Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) the bill’s sponsor said in a statement.

The legislation provides a path to citizenship for 2.5 million people, including those given Temporary Protected Status, some who came to the U.S. as early as the 1990s. It also would apply to those granted a Deferred Enforcement Departure, which allows people to remain in the U.S. beyond their initial authorization due to conditions in their home country.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced Wednesday that the House would consider a number of immigration bills the week of March 15. Roybal-Allard’s bill is among those sources say will be considered, along with another bill that would provide a path to citizenship for migrant farmworkers.

Unclear, however, is whether President Biden’s immigration bill, which would offer a path to citizenship for 11 million people, is set to be considered.

"as well as others given temporary status when fleeing unrest in their home country, to apply for citizenship."

They did it boys, they mixed us with the irrelevant categories, conservatives are going to call this flat out amnesty, United We Dream will make some ridiculous claim to legalize all or nothing and this will not pass.

Not even funny anymore.

Everyone knows this is not the final bill or even close to the final bill.

I wouldn't call TPS category irrelevant. Many of them have been under TPS longer than we have on DACA.

"completing certain programs at an educational institution or serving at least two years in the Uniformed Services and being discharged honorably."

Get the fck out, lmao what about business owners? What about people that were smart enough to join the trades? What about us people that are successful with no college? Forcing us to waste time in college. I already manage a 20 million dollar property with over 200 people in the critical infrastructure industry tf do i need college for. Lmao.

The thing is that conservatives are favorable of us DACA more than all other categories. In order for us to have a chance we need to be treated separately.

Im not saying TPS people shouldn't get fixed, each situation has to be treated separately to create a solution specific to it.

Farmworkers need their own solution.

Parents of DACAs need their own solution.

Refugees need their own solution.

The 11 million need their own solution.

Obtaining only ONE out of those will give the democrats the momentum they want for other bills.

Politics is a nightmare, its basically my career to play this sort of crap.

May the best come to all.

You're super cool, yeah. But no degree, no GC. GTFO, hot shot.

Dreamers with college degrees are getting their own solution. Too bad you're not part of this better group.

It really hurts when a a fellow Dreamer refers to non college Dreamers as sub par to those with degrees. I thought we were all in the same boat here; undocumented, brought here without choice, and just wanting to be fully integrated into American society. Everyone has their own story and that means some can go and afford college and others don’t. That doesn’t make them less deserving of a solution to their status.
I just wish, we could all show a little more empathy towards each other.

You must be new here. The post was directed at BeingOfLight, a Trmup supporter who is the epitome of throwing other immigrants under the bus. He is just now getting a taste of his own medicine with the degree requirement.

I do not support political parties. Only truth and facts.

This is not the final bill nor has a chance as it stands right now of passing either way.

From the previous attempts, GOP to push the bill as far right as possible so they are they initially learn right so they can meet somewhere in the middle.

They may gut the bill itself and just use the name which has already passed committees to create a new bill. We don't know what direction it will go yet. Talks have been kept quiet for a good reason. The dont want Trump and his right wing to try to kill it before anything can get going. The situation at the border is already hurting our chances not need to make it harder
