Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is unhappy with the Biden administration following the release of a quarterly report of statistics related to applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

According to the report, the administration has approved just 763 initial DACA applications since January, with more than 55,000 applications still pending. This is in addition to more than 44,000 pending renewal applications.

HARRIS PUSHES AMNESTY BILLS ON DACA ANNIVERSARY, AS REPUBLICANS SLAM BORDER CRISIS RESPONSE

"The slow rate of processing DACA applications – both initial requests and renewals – is simply unacceptable," Durbin said in a statement. "DACA processing delays are harming Dreamers, as well as their families, livelihoods and security. The Biden administration must work expeditiously to expand processing capacity and eliminate the DACA application backlog."

This is not the first time Durbin, lead author of the DREAM Act that would codify DACA, has chastised the Biden administration for its lack of action. Earlier this month, he and Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., led 19 other Senate Democrats in calling for the administration to act faster.

‘CLUELESS’ KAMALA HARRIS BLASTED FOR NOT VISITING ‘EPICENTER’ OF BORDER CRISIS

"DACA processing delays have significant consequences, not just for individuals depending on the status for their livelihoods and security, but for their families and for the businesses and workplaces that employ them," the senators wrote in a letter to Tracy Renaud, acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. "As we work to build back our economy from the effects of the pandemic, reducing backlogs and processing delays for DACA cases is of the utmost importance."

That letter was sent on June 15, the ninth anniversary of DACA. That same day, protesters in Washington, D.C., called for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and slammed the administration for not acting.

Not to be pessimistic, but has Biden done anything for DACA other than to introduce an immigration legislation that has absolutely zero chance of passing in Congress??

We can’t say he preserved DACA because that was already done through the courts. But his ineffectiveness on DACA with a Hanen ruling coming soon is just unacceptable but not surprising.

It’s typical for the Democrats to pander to the Hispanic community for votes on solving an issue they are not really interested in fixing.

Here is all you are getting NPCs, if anything Biden is aiding into DACAs having their renewals delayed af, this never happened under the orange man.

But hey, orange man said really mean things on twatter right and told DACAs countless times not to worry while he was in office right? Feelings are more important than real life right? NPCs will be NPCs.

Democrats actually lost support amongst hispanics in 2020. Republicans gained 8 points from Hispanic voters from 2016 to 2020. The Hispanic group was the biggest group in the "minority" category that went republican, beating any other "minority" category by more than 2x. The biggest gain for Democrats is +3% from white voters from 2016 to 2020.

If you pander to a group about solving an issue for that group and then lose 8% of those voters to the other party, then it's not surprising that the issue is on the low priority list, if on a list at all. If anything, it'd be on the list because "white" voters support DACA (based off of demographic voting data and only looking at the DACA issue). It isn't shocking news, I mean, just browse this forum. Imagine if Biden & Democrats spends all their political capita to get DACA people citizenship tomorrow. There will be DACA people that vote republican in the next election. It's the same reason why hispanic voters went more republican in 2020. DACA is not an important enough issue for hispanic voters.

I am not surprised DACA is taking a back seat for various reasons. If by Oct / Nov rolls around and nothing is happening, then chances of something happening gets lower as time passes. Democrats are in serious risk of losing the legislative branch in 2022. The way state legislators are doing redistricting & voting, republicans will have the house for quite some time if they win.
