I got a notice that hackers got my information...Weirdly enough my worry is that one of those motherfuckers is going to get a credit card or bank account in my name and make a false claim to citizenship and then 7 years from now when I'm minding my own business, it comes back to bite me in the ass and force me to defend it.

i have t mobile to and got the same message. i'm not concerned at all. you're not responsible for fraud. I know someone recently filed for unemployment under my name. Strangely enough, the check was sent to my actual house. I sent back the check but it was weird.

One would hope but for "us people" and immigration law, we're guilty until proven innocent.

And it's weird about the unemployment claims. I'm not sure what their end game is because the check/direct deposit has to be sent somewhere.

Yeah super weird. HR asked me if I filed for unemployment and I told them I didn't. Next thing I knew the check came to my house. I had a credit card fraud in the past and they order a product and sent it to my house. Wonder if they planned on intercepting it.

If you haven't got the text from T-Mobile, you might be the lucky few who didn't get their info taken. Apparently the 1st wave were 7.8 million users whose SSNs were taken. Then next group was the 5.3 million whose SSNs were safe but other data like DOB, name, etc. was taken. They're offering some bullshit McAfee service for 2 years but their site looks shady as fuck too and I don't trust anything from that company going back to the shitty herpes like virus scanners they had that you could never uninstall.

You can just ask them if your info was stolen...you can DM @tmobilehelp on twitter or call 611 but fair warning they are extremely careful about what they say and are trying to push the narrative that it's not a big deal and start with "the good news is your credit card info wasn't taken!" as if anybody really gives a shit about that since credit cards can be replaced in like 15 minutes with a phone call and people like us especially can't change our SSNs without an act of god.

Myself, I'm porting out my number...I don't have a lot of control over my life right now but I'll be dammed if I give any more money to a company that does this and thinks they'll get away with it.

It is not that serious. I audit IT functions within companies and this is all too common. I am not saying it is okay but not serious enough to port out number. Can happen with other phone companies as well.
