Please don’t lose hope. In 2018, I wanted to be a doctor, but I didn’t know how to do so due to my immigration status and the fact that the stress and depression from what was happening in Congress affected my grades. I saw a lot of schools that just refused to admit me because of my immigration status. However, by taking one step at a time, I got to this point where I was recently admitted to a top 5 medical school. My GPA and MCAT weren’t amazing. However, my story made a difference. To any future med applicants, have faith in your story. It’s unique and it’ll make you a good doctor, a doctor that won’t judge the decisions that members of your community might’ve made health wise. And good med schools realize that.

Keep at it! Get to the point where you have a complete application. Also please dream big. The schools that are most receptive to your stories are in the T10 and T20 (regardless of your stats).

Good luck and don’t give up if being a doctor is what you truly want.

Also for the racists out there, I wasn’t a URM.

So a lot of top schools provide a lot of grant aid and even the few loans that you have to take will be arranged for by the school. If you are in California and are AB540, pretty much every CA school will support you.

Definitely research the schools you’re interested in, but know that DACA isn’t always a hindrance. I feel like my story really helped me stand out at a lot of schools.

Just an update, the top 5 med school I got into and now intend to attend gave me effectively a full ride. And it wasn’t the only one to do so. If you get into med school, especially a school sympathetic to our cause, you’ll likely get a lot of aid. Hopefully that inspires some of you who may have been on the fence about med school due to cost issues. I’m not some exceptional case. But being undocumented can help a lot at the right school. PM me if you have any questions.

I’m not really very interested in publicizing my story. I feel like there are certain people I don’t want to know about me, including my former boss since I left on really bad terms. Like I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to sue him. I also don’t people to scrutinize me in the media and my mental health can’t take that. Feel free to shoot me questions though.

My story isn’t uncommon. I think most DACA premeds that go to medical school go to top schools with good scholarships since how else are they gonna go to med school? It’s too expensive and it’s not like we can get student loans.

Having said that, I'd be careful about advising other DACA undergrad students to follow ur path because most DACA undergrad students attend public schools and if they don't get accepted to med schools like u, they're stuck with useless bio or biochem majors that get them shitty jobs after graduation.

I'd recommend that they only try premed if they attend top schools with good scholarships since they'll get love calls from good jobs even with bio or biochem majors if they attend top schools with good scholarships.

I didn’t major in biology or biochemistry. My majors in college were completely unrelated to medicine.

You can be a premed while majoring in business or computer science.
