Can you apply for social security?

I thought you could. One of my family receiving letters about social security benefits. He has TPS and a social security number and is over 70 years old. But when I read the requirements for applying for it, it says if you are a not US citizen, you need to prove your immigrant status. Would his TPS status disqualify him? He came here legally. Thanks.

Hi, your family member with TPS will be able to apply. As long as he maintains his TPS status he will be eligible for the benefit.
