...were flukes

Extremely generous towards immigrants.

But the actual normalcy is back?

This country always had animosity towards immigrants. It is the normal!

Looking back, we were so lucky to have Obama.

You are so right. This country has always had a foreigner hating bent but for us it's different because we are brown and direct descendants of the first nations peoples. That's the crime. Though we're not really foreign because our ancestors walked these lands previously.

They did not deserve the Obama victory. He did so much and they want to rip apart the ACA by fooling the gullible into voting against Obamacare. Pro ACA anti Obamacare. We are so cooked.

Not true.

The George Bush years weren't bad , when it comes to immigration.
We almost got an amnesty but 9/11 ruined it all.
Yeah, if you were a Muslim - you got alot of bullshit back then.
However, even when the 9/11 paranoia was at its peak- they weren't spewing hateful rhetoric and violating green card holders.
They would a few raids here and there but the average illegal Jose who minded his business was left alone.
They had crazy anti-immig guys back then (ex: Tom Tancredo, Krikorian) but those fuckers were considered cuckoos by most Republicans back then and left in the fringe.
Florida was a moderate purple state.
Now, everything is changed. Those fuckers are mainstream and Florida is scarlet red.
My hope is that these anti-immig guys will burn out and the Republican Party becomes more moderate after Trump is gone.
My fear is that Trump will become a modern Ronald Reagan and have copycats who will use the same formula to get to power.

Yeah, guys like them were considered "D-tier" Republicans back then. Bottom of armpit.

Nowadays, these same weirdos are winning elections and getting Cabinet positions.

Times change.

Same with Democrats. AOC would never get anywhere in the 1990s.

In fact, Bill Clinton solidified his grip in power by shutting down Sistah Soljah , who was the 1990's version of AOC.

Now look at her now. One of the top Democrats along Bernie Sanders, who is a freaking Socialist.

Polarization brings weirdos and extremoes to power.
