SB 1301, the California Dream Act, is actually on the Governor's desk. We all know what is probably going to happen what with the budget and renewed debate over AB 540, but there is still a chance due to the scaled-back nature of the third and current reincarnation of the California Dream Act.

So guys, please let the Governor know about your support by calling him at 916-445-2841 (same deal as calling for the federal Dream Act, you'll get a busy signal at least once, thought it was pretty easy for me). Also, you can email him with your logic and personal stories at http://gov.ca.gov/interact#email.

Please take a second out of your life to do this even if you aren't in California! If this passes, it will set a precedent for other states to follow Texas and California's lead.

Thanks so much.

Here's the op-ed piece: http://www.mercurynews.com/opinion/ci_10557525

one second, so if California dream doesn't use the goverment's money...

which one do we qualify for? We can't get financial aids from the gov, then from school??? I dunno how exactly it is going to implement the financial aid for us since it doesn't use any government money... Do we get tuition deduction or what?

If by lower tuition rates you mean financial aid (institutional rather than general state funds like Cal Grant) then yes.

I sent him an email... but I don't think it will make a difference. Let's cross our fingers and pray.

I've been checking the Governor's legislative updates, where signed and vetoed bills are listed, for the past couple days. Nothing so far on SB 1301. Keep calling and emailing. The chance of getting the bill signed isn't that large, but it's still a chance. Again, keep calling, keep emailing!!
