Hey guys,

I'm kinda frustrated these days because I don't know if I can land a regular job. I just graduated from university and I can't get into MBA if I don't have any work experience. I do have ssn and dl but my ssn is not for work purpose. If I were to work in a firm with my ssn, would that hurt me in a long run? like if dream passes? or should I just waste my time until something happens?

Legally, you can't work and I can't recommend that you do. In the future for legalization purposes, whether or not it plays a role depends on how much weight USCIS places on your unauthorized employment. One of the requirements for DREAM applicants is to demonstrate "good moral character", an ambiguous term that can be interpreted to mean that the alien never worked without authorization.

well hang in there and see if dream act passes in 2009. Btw you're very lucky to have a driver's license and a social security number. Most of us here don't have anything at all so dont feel THAT frustrated.

He said he doesn't know if he can land a regular job... meaning he doesn't have one. Graduating with a BA degree and not being able to work or study further is very very tough... If I were you I would think about internships and keep looking for connections to work under the table. It is rare but not unheard of that some professions will hire you under the table, small ethnic firms maybe for a low pay. But more importantly get your plan B ready, what if Dream doesn't pass next year or the year after?

It is very frustrating. The problem with internships (at least in my field - sciences), they are all paid! I have yet to find a non-paying one. A lot of them won't even allow international students here on a student visa intern for them.

This is actually nominal. The reason being is that the FBI has been warning against having foreign visa interns due to potential intelligence breaches.

Well this may not sound very comforting, but it will at least keep you busy and help you acquire that experience for a MBA... volunteer your work. I know some companies may not allow you to work, but you can do special projects for them (who doesn't like free labor). You could accomplish two things: 1) Experience under your belt for MBA admission 2) If Dream doesn't pass (let's hope it does), on plan B you will have experience that you can take along and use as a network to work in some other country (Canada has a shortage on skilled labor) If you do some research and affiliate yourself with a mentor in your field or your university career counselor, they can help you find companies that are interested in research work, look specially for those with at the international level... That's some of the stuff I'm doing as my back up plan... Hope it helps...
