We need to get to 60 votes. Somehow Sen. Durbin got our message last time and dropped the in-state language from DREAM.

Even though we won't get grants with DREAM, there are federal loans and so technically the haters like sessions can claim we get financial aid.
With this economy, I think we should get rid of it. There are always private loans and those of us who have already graduated can help start our own DREAMie loan program via prosper.com or something.

Someone people here have connections to Josh Bernstein so maybe he can notify Durbin that he should really think about dropping that provision as well.

What do you guys think?

I disagree. I think we can build a lot of momentum. If we change our 'ask' because of what the haters say we are never gonna get anywhere.

In short, the initial DREAM proposal for 2009 should be as strong as possible. I would even say put in-state tuition back on the table.

I think anything about financial aid should be dropped because of the state of the economy and the budget deficit. But the age limit should be abolished. 30 is such an arbitrary number.

I don't think it matters what we concede, the opposition will still call it "amnesty." And they'll continue to attack it with lies, no matter what we offer up on the table. Take for example the 1:00 min mark, where Inhofe says "conditional lawful permanent resident green card" (<---WTF, LOL so is it conditional or permanent?) and then continues to talk about how DREAMers would be able to petition their parents/family members. He should of just stopped at "I know I'm prejudice." Then added, "I'm also a natvitist xenophobic idiot that has no idea what the fuck I'm talking about. Motion to procede on to the skullfucking bill."

Just as Mat, says:

Btw, notice that the age is already an issue. Not that I'm saying to keep it as it is or to take it out. <--It just goes to show how they'll attack any and every little thing they can about DREAM including with blatant lies.

I think that setting a expiration date on the dream act if it doesn't already have one to like 10 years from the date its passed or as soon as CIR is passed. would get more support from the Repukecans.

Infhofe has the mental capacity of a 3 year old and apparently so does his staff.

If they knew what the hell they were talking when they wrote that speech they would know that permanent residents cannot petition to bring their parents over. Only citizens over the age of 21 can do that if they can afford to take care of parents, their parents weren't EWIs, never claimed to be citizens, didn't enter on a K visa, or had any deportation orders against them.

We aren't trying to Inhofffffffe's vote. We're looking at people like Chuck Grassley, Cornyn, Kyl, Gregg, etc.

There already is one. You have to have entered 5 years prior to passage of DREAM to pass. 4 years before - you miss out, 1 year after -you miss out.

^^ I think Ice Wood meant, expiration to file. If we're talking about expirations, I don't think it should be ten years, maybe 5. even 5 might be too long. I mean, if you're an Eligible DREAMie, why would you even wait ten years to file? or 5?

DREAM is for people over the age of 12 right now. You can't put that kind of responsibility on a 12 year old. I like the expiration date on the date of entry instead of when you applied so no one is left behind just because they weren't lucky enough to hear about it.
