Hey, im really feeling kind of down that the summer is comming up , and alot of my people are heading on vacations to bahamas, Mexico, and random hot spots around the world. I started looking into cruises, but you need a passport in order to take a cruise to the bahamas, but you dont need a passport to go to hawaii, but you need a valid issued id and i'm glad to say i have a valid Drivers license, but at the same time they may ask for some proof of citizenship, or they might not eeerrr its making me mad paranoid over this, because i really dont want this trip to end up in a bad way. Does anyone think its a little risky to take a cruise to hawaii eventhough i dont have an official american passport. I really need to know, all my friends are going to go on a cruise this summer, and i would just love to be able to join them. I just have to know ASAP, because my friends are booking the trip in the next week or so, and i really dont want to spend mad money on this ticket only to be denied at the gate. SO please anyone i just need some advice on this, It sucks because i have a feeling everyone is going to tell me this is very risky, but i just have to know what others think over this, and if they have gone on a trip themselfs.

Its extremaly risky...I know if you go to an American owned island (like St. Thomas) you have to go through customs on the way back. Also most of the time when you enter the mainland of US you have to show proof you're allowed to enter the US.

Tell your friends you'll do it next year. Its only like a week and you won't do anything there that you can't do at home. Just be glad that you actually have a DL.

But honestly, I would laugh a little if your next post said "Guys, I don't know what to do I'm stuck in Hawaii and don't know what to do".

yea i knew from the beginning that this would be a bad idea, but thanks for info on customs agents. I completely forgot about that, and it only makes me feel even more sad now to know for sure that i cant go. Oh well, you cant blame a guy for dreaming, but hopefully one day i will be able to take that cruise.

At least you have enough money to pay for a damn cruise!

Go use it for something more worthwhile.

I don't know about cruises but I know someone who flew to Hawaii with a valid driver's license and came back after a week. Everything went smooth and he's always flying around using his ID.

Its actually a little tricky. They say you do need a passport if you are not a U.S. citizen. U.S. citizens just need a gov. ID.

Just stay home...

My boss keeps on tellling me that there is nothing to worry about, because he says he travels to puerto rico and hawaii all the time, on business trips and rarely ever shows a passport, mostly just a identifcation like an official DL. So i feel tempted to just buy the ticket sometimes, but other times i just feel like i shouldn't risk it, its making me feel completely paranoid. All i want to do is enjoy my youth, and be able to travel without fear of being deported, and have fun enjoying the simplest things in life, but yet i cant.
