Members of San Antonio's congressional delegation who back reform sound doubtful of passage, too, especially given 2010 elections.

Obama has said he's willing to move forward if the votes are there, said Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, D-San Antonio. “It doesn't look like we have the votes, in all honesty.” He said Congress might instead address reform “partially.”

He cited the Dream Act, introduced in March, which would extend permanent residency to immigrant students who came to the United States as children and have graduated from high school.
Gonzalez said more border security funds would be approved regardless of an immigration bill, and “a temporary workers program of some sort” will be addressed.
“We have certain windows,” Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, said. “Experience and history have told us if it's postponed to the following year, then you're talking about 2011.”

Once again: The DA has to pass this year, otherwise is gone. Did you read the whole article? Obama's administration officials say immigratio reform is still on his agenda. His agenda covers the whole 4 years of his administration. Do you all want to wait three more years, only to see IF this can pass? Let me see, DA was introduced in 2001...and now maybe it will take effect on 2011...No.

This is what happens when reform happens on Republican terms, even though we have Democratic "leaders":

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, Pub.L. 104-208, Div. C, 110 Stat. 3009-546 (often referred to as "i-RAI-ruh" by federal appellate law clerks, and sometimes abbreviated to IIRIRA) vastly changed the immigration laws of the United States. In 1996 the Illegal Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act (IIRAIRA 96) was passed and signed by former President of the United States Bill Clinton. Title III of this new act created the notion of “unlawfully present” persons; specifically, the three-year, ten-year, and permanent bars were formed.

This act states that if a person has been in the United States for 180 days but less than 365 days they must remain outside the United States for three years unless they obtain a pardon. If they have been in the United States for 365 days or more they must stay outside the United States for ten years unless they obtain a pardon. If the person returns to the United States without the pardon they cannot apply for a waiver for a period of ten years. This is the permanent bar. All of this applies regardless of whether the person has a United States citizen spouse and/or children.

In fact, the government deports people at their discretion (ie, depending on their mood).

The 1996 laws were definitely pushed by Republicans, but it was signed by a popular Democrat, former President Bill Clinton.

I feel like giving up this battle.

I literally feel drained and defeated.

I know how you guys feel...it seems impossible for a Bill that has come up a few times before and be rejected...what gives any reason for it to pass now?

This is seriously disappointing, I'm seriously hurt!, they make it seem like we can WAIT forever. We march, write, and do anything possible to get the attention from these people, still it is not good enough, WTF? what now? There are people that say, "have patience, and just wait". Well WAIT sometimes means never!
