My first question... How many of you guys on here have registered with Selective Service?
I've registered with the SSS.

Quote:
My second question... How many of you guys actually keep up with it? (Selective Service requires you to report and notify address changes within ten days of moving.)
I havent moved since I registered.

Quote:
My third question... I've been trying to do some extended research on it, but have yet to come up with any insightful information and answer to the question I've had running around my head ... So my question is: If (hypothetically speaking) another draft were to ever come up (yes highly unlikely even with the dwindling recruitment the military is currently facing), would undocumented people in our situation be required to serve, or would we be simply thrown out and exempt because of our status? I have a feeling we would be exempt under the class 4-C in the US Code Title 32, Chapter XVI, Sec. 1630.2. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_service ) But if so, then why are we even required to register in the first place? If we are able to actually be drafted into the military, well, you can probably see where I am going with that thought.
Really, It's hypocritical, We have the right to be drafted, and if we dont its a felony, but we arent allowed to work here legally or do anything anyone else in this country can do. Those of you who have not registered should know that If DREAM passes, they will do a background chack on your criminal history and not registering is a felony.

To answer your question, if there was a draft, you are required to server. Thats the reason you registered with sss. and i dont think women are going to be required, for women its an option.

Ok...so now I'm getting scared for my brothers...

One of them can still register [he's turning 25 this year] but the other one is going to be 27. They "don't remember" if they registered or not. Sigh. So, if DREAM passes, what will happen to them? Will they not be eligible for the benefits? What about all the other kids that may not know that they can register with the selective service?

they should both register anyways I doubt the service would reject the 27 yr old application at least is better than nothing. I was skeptical about registering but I did it two months ago and have my first government issued card with my name on it. I can't wait to get my ssn card.

Well Im not sure if it still applies, but from what i understood, when you apply for DREAM, they will do a background check. The thing is Im not really sure how it works for the undocumented population. If they were to register still they could get into trouble, because they must provide a birthday. I think you must register within 6 months of turning 18.

Therefore, to be in full compliance with the law, a man turning 18 is required to register during the period of time beginning 30 days before, until 30 days after his 18th birthday...a 60-day window.

Late registrations are accepted, but not once a man reaches age 26. Men who do not register within the 60-day window are technically in violation of the law and should register as soon as possible.

ummm oh shit. I thought we could register at any time as long as we're between 18 and 26 years old.... I haven't done it yet
