Hello,

Well im 17 yrs old and I will be graduating highschool in a couple of weeks; May 17. A lot of kids in my school have no idea what i have been through and i dont speak of it at all. Im hispanic and in my school everyone knows me but doesnt really know me that well. I came to the U.S when i was 5 and i lived in Omaha, NE i went to kindergarden and 1st grade there. I later moved to Ks where i started 2nd grade and have lived here till this day. My father and mother are both illegal immigrants, My father i havent spoke to since 7th grade when my world just started to get worse. My father was a horrible man and when i grew older i started to realize that, he would beat my mother and pick out what she wore and would get mad a little things such as the food she made. One night i had woken up to a lot of yelling, it was coming from my parents bedroom. I open the door and my dad had broken a glass cup. My mother was in tears and I started to yell at my dad to leave her alone. My little sister had entered the room also she was only 12 and i had been 14. He proceeded to gather her clothes from the closet and rip everything in site he then lite everything on fire. I remember him saying that he was going to call the police because he needed help that he was the victim in this. The police came shortley after he called, they took him away he wanted to say goodbye to my sister and I but i refused. My mom worked at an office and had learned lots of languages there. Her bosses were Brazilian and i forget the other one. But she stayed there for a long time and they helped us with anything. My father had been in jail for a short period of time until he was deported back to Mexico. My mother was afraid for our safety so we had to move and file a protection order. My father managed to come back and was looking for us, he figured out our phone number and left threating calls saying he was going to kill my mom and make us watch. 3 years had passed and we were left alone. I turned 16 and found a job for a short time illegally. It was hard to find anything else. My mom had just recently talked and worked with a lawyer with our case to become naturalized citizens, but i dont know how long that will take. Im almost done with highschool and all my friends always ask, "hey were are you going to college?" I usually lie and say a community college knowing i cant even go. they always wonder why i havent got a license and why i cant go to cancun for spring break. i would really hope that i can live her in america and have no worries. Everyday is a gift and i would like to stay here. My english is perfect and sometimes the people i go to school with dont even know im mexican. so thats my story

Ya, my highschool has a lot of white people and a couple of mexicans but i have always fitted in the popular crowd. Though non of them know what i have faced, i keep it to my self because im embarrased, scared, and i dont think they need to know. They always wonder why im 17 and dont have a DL? i always use excuses like i dont have time or money, or that i wrecked a car and im not allowed to have a license till im 18.

OMG! I can relate to you! I'm a junior. will be 17 next month and most of my friends already drive, have their cars etc. hey ask me why i dont have at least my permit yet and i always have to make up a lie like, oh my parents dont want me to drive till im 18. I hate it. I wish i could get a drivers license and be able to drive without a fear. Sometimes i wanna go back to mexico. And your friends dont think your mexican? thats good. Like everyone in my school is already making fun of mexicans cause of the swine flu. Theyre so ignorant. by the way, what part of mexico are you from?

Okay so here's the deal, you CAN go to college. A lot of colleges don't care about your legal status. Paying for it is the problem. We can go but we can't take out loans, federal aids and are not able to apply for most scholarships. If we can figure out a way around that, we can go to college.

I'm sorry that we went through all that. I really am.

that is correct my friend Most colleges don't care about your status, they care about getting paid!. And you can get a Driver's licence or a Driving priviledge card but you would have to do that out of state. Browse the forums and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Ya I could go to college, sorry i didnt make myself to clear on that lol. The money is the problem. It's EXTREMELY EXTREMELY hard to find a job esp now here in Kansas that is. Esp the place where I live which if full of wealthy people. I did look at the DL but the date on those posts were from a couple years back and im not sure if some of them still exist. Maybe if anyone had any idea on where some jobs in Salina, Ks were that would help me out a lot. My boyfriend is white and he is from here and he's going to school down there and wanted me to come with. He and another friend are rooming together and the apartment we looked at asked alot of info about the people that would be living there and since i dont really exist in this country i couldnt write down anything. He knows of my status here and has been so kind and doesnt care. Idk i would like to go down there and find a job. I just wished things would hurry up.

Bro I feel your pain when I was in high school I struggled with that too my first 3 years of high school my friends had no idea about my situation then senior year came up and at first I lied said I wasn't sure but you know what man if they are your friends it doesn't even matter you open the game up with them, but make sure they are your friends. Everyone supported me, funny story some of my guy friends offered gay marriage haha but I had to reject that, wouldn't look too well plus I am not that desperate but anyways man. I am same situation as you but I am going to a community college, search around man.

Some community colleges don't ask for a social security, you can get get in those, you won't get any financial aid or anything but if you can work one job and take a few classes for the moment while the law is to come out you will be better off than dropping out bro so good luck and don't be embarrassed about your situation man you are deff not the only one

Best of wishes to ya

I'm so sorry to hear about your past! You seem like such a warm and open person-- lets hope that they treat us like people one of these days and give us the right to stay.
