Yes, it is necessary. If you are over the limit (I dun remember, like 26, 27), you cannot file an immigration adjustment. So do it now.
Why? BECAUSE IT'S A LAW for citizen and legal resident. For undocumented alien, you are not required, but if you are over the limit, you cannot file your adjustment!

DO IT, DON'T ASK. NO HARM AND NOBODY WILL GO AFTER YOU. I DID IT.

I concur.

Im not exactly sure about what i am about to say, but i was thinking that you should just do it before the age limit (maybe a year before)...thats what i plan on doing. Also you would probably have to go somewhere to get this "form" because i believe the online versions asks for information a lot of people on here dont have.

You can get this from local post office. I was on the same boast as OP a couple months ago. I decided to register the form and I got a reply back within two months. Now I am saving this form as an evidence for my future immigration adjustment.

Yeah, truth be told, im still a few years away from the cut off age (5+ yrs) so what i plan to do is when something is ACTUALLY passed, then i will do it because by the time i get confirmation and everything i should be ok. Also, there are people who are not on this forum who just DONT KNOW about it...like me (a few months back). I didnt know about it til like a month or two ago when i posted on a similar thread about Selective Service. I dont think its valid to punish someone who does not know about it. Especially since when you register to take your SATs and stuff, you are automatically registered only IF you are a USC or Perm. Resident (which is very misleading).

Also lawyers i have talked to never brought it up.

Yes. I agree. Guess what? A few days ago before you brought this question up, I was thinking about making another thread on this, and have the moderator to stick a thread, to tell male dreamers to sign up for this.

In fact, even citizens may not know this. I have spoken to a few legal immigrants, they did not know until I told them. LOL

Lol, i think i brought this up elsewhere but someone might have thought it wasnt a smart way to go....I honestly dont see anything wrong with it. I have seen the paper before from the post office but i did not exactly know what it was.

My plan is just when something is in process and the likelihood of a bill passing is high, i will probably register then. Until that time, i dont see the point in doing something like this especially when Obama is planning to send troops out. If anyone wants to know what the plan was just to repeat:

Register for Selective Service during the time of Immigration Reform debates when it seems like there is a good chance for it to pass, OR UNLESS you are approaching the age of 26 (meaning you are 24, 25) i would probably go ahead and do it now, because once it passes, you are ineligible to sign up, and it may hinder you from applying in the future if anything is passed (maybe)

I dont think there are "valid" punishments for a case like this, because it can always be argued that you never knew what it was or never came across it, and in the case that you did, it required a SS# (some have some don't) online which you may not have been able to provide, or if you have an SS did not know if it was safe or for USC or perm. residents only.

Gx01, would you mind posting a mini process about what went on exactly? You got the form from the post office, filled out what you could, and just mailed it out? Did you get any confirmation email (if they sent you one), or after 2 months were you just given a letter? what was said in the letter and did it ever require you to update information with them?

Hey I hnave a friend who was on a student visa until he was 25 and never registered for SSS. Now he is 28, past the deadline, can he do anything about it? He was told that he didn't need to register while he was here on a student visa.

the thing says that any undocumented male living in the US should sign up before he is 25/26/// I HAD NO IDEA! This if it's important it should be a sticky and everyone should know about this!
