Heaven Forbid.

The Democrats will still control the senate. New majority leader will be either Dick Durbin (hopefully) or Chuck Schumer. The republicans will control the house.

What does this mean for the Dream Act?

Someone else will have to (in the words of many Conservative Republican Women) man up and push it forward.

I just hope he doesn't pull a McCain and says that the Latino community "didn't support" him.

If the tea party racists gain even a seat, immigration reform will suffer greatly. If republicans gain control, you can expect the passage of enforcement only reforms.

Good point but then again, the Republicans might capitalize on the Democrats not passing any sort of Immigration Reform, and if they (the Republicans) become the majority in both Houses they may turn around and actually pass some sort of Immigration Reform with enforcement BUT also a pathway to Residency for some people. Then guess what? a good amout of the Latino and the Immigrant vote will then move to them in 2012. Sounds unbelievable, but you never know. This is why the Dems including Obama should have fought harder for Immigration Reform and should be more willing to push for the Dream Act/Ag Jobs and in the future CIR than they presently are, I'm just sayin'.
After what Mitch McConnell said this week about making Obama a one term president, I really wouldn't be surprised if this was a part of their strategy in order to block his re-election in 2012. They'll be doing any and every thing to make that happen.

Republicans may very well be planning this all alongt. Remember how Lindsey Graham turned 180 degree on Schumer early this year? The relatively "sane" wing of the GOP party doesn't want to reward the democratic party with a CIR accomplishment. And on the other hand, they know this very well that there is no way they can win 2012 presidential election without the Latino votes. That's just simple math! If I was a democratic strategist, I would do whatever it takes to pass CIR during the lame duck; regardless of Nov 2 outcome.

It looks like GOP will only win the House of Rep, but not Senate. If CIR does pass before 2012 Obama is pres and will get credit for it, and the Senate will probably stay Democrat and get credit also. As always, I hope I'm wrong and CIR passes soon.

I don't know, i think that if it's introduced as a stand alone bill it has pretty good chances. i heard gingrich in one of those sunday shows say that the only reason why the dream act didn't pass is because it was politicized by the democrats by putting in the defense bill.

republicans are not stupid either, with a bill like the dream act they wont get as much of a backlash from the tea baggers and yet they will seem like the saviors to the hispanic voter block. if they want a a chance at defeating obama in 2 years they will need a higher percentage of the latino vote then what they got on the last presidential election.

wait wait the republicans ARE pretty stupid, so disregard anything i just wrote.

I'm sorry, but Republicans will never pass a fair comprehensive immigration reform. Don't you know their strongest base is the angry, white, uneducated majority? Those constituents would never want immigration reform and if any Republican supported CIR they would probably lose their seat in the next election.

Just sayin'. I don't believe it will happen with a GOP majority.
