Hi guys! Well, i haven't been given a direct answer yet to whether or not i should write about my undocumented status for my UC Personal statement. I just want to know if i should write about my undocumented status in my personal statement. I want to write about it, and how similar to many dreamers here, i've faced numerous problems, and thankfully overcome some of them. However, i don't know if it is ok to write about it. Need an urgent answer..Thank you for the help!!

i didnt and i got in. i dont want to use our situation as an excuse on why we should or shouldnt be accepted. i look at it as in plain academic accomplishments along with extra curricular activities on why we should be or shouldnt be accepted.

Four years ago, when I filled out the UC application, I talked about being undocumented in my personal statement. I eventually got accepted to the ones to which I applied. In my particular case, talking about it didn't prevent me from getting accepted to the campuses of my choice. In fact, I think mentioning it actually helped me because it showed that despite all the problems I was facing, I still continued to persevere.

^California beat me to what I was going to say.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with mentioning that you are undocumented.

They are going to know anyways, once you submit your AB540 affidavit (if you get accepted).

You only have a few days left until the deadline hits. Good luck!

i talked about it in my UC personal statement. Clearly if you're AB540 student , the school will know about it eventually because you'll have to apply for AB540 status for in-state tuition.

So, why not talk about it

You can write about it as long as you also write about how it has and will never hold you back. That is what colleges want to see. Show them how competitive you are.

^Yeah. PLEASE, do not write a pity story. They hear those all the time. I almost made the mistake last year, when I was applying.

They want to see why you are a valuable person and how you can add to their campus.

Oh, that's great to hear...THANKS GUYS for all the responses....i guess i'm going to mention it in my essay. What i plan on writing about is how each different phase in my life has been affected differently by my status, but has helped me develop along the way, to the point where I've found strengths to get around my status.

On another note, i know a lot of ppl here attend UCs but even with the in-state tuition, i wanted to know how you guys are managing to pay all the expenses. My dad earns around 30000 a yr, having to pay for my bro alrdy going to CSUN for a few years. So, I'm pretty much asking what type of grants are UCs possibly providing for students like us. Not to mention the tuition rate hikes.

Thank you!!!

well there is not much of us in uc cuz its so dam expensive so i got my hands on how many undocumented students attend uc by schools the only uc that does not have ab540 students is uc santa barbra uc irvine has the most and uc berkely and ucla are tide.....ucsd has a good grip too uc irvine has about 143 ab540 students ucla 100 and so forth so no not much in the whole uc system there is only 500 to 545 ab540 students so if u can get in and pay for it feel special ......there is more in the cal state system....
