I was doing some reasearch and I found out that it is possible to get a SSN without permitance to work. I was hopping my chance to pass a criminal background check for a school related thing with a SSN could work?

On the online data it said that certain non resident aliens could get a SSN without authorization to work only if a state/federal law or state agency actually requres one for public benift?

Is it still possible to this date? And what state agency requires one? Has anyone heard of this and tried it out for a SSN?

Thank You!!

I know I jumped on you in another thread. I don't have info about getting a SSN, since the last time I applied for one was in 2001 while I was on a temporary visa (H-4), and that application was rejected, but I do have info on going through criminal background checks.

What criminal background check do you have to go through? If it's just your typical police clearance from your city's PD, you don't need a SSN. You can use your state ID (if you have one) or your passport. You don't need a SSN either even if you're getting an FBI clearance done.

lol its all cool! We all have different opinions but at the end we are all in a community and unity and helping each other always wins!!

I want to become a male nurse, but the cc requires a background check to get into the program.
I think it was either a FBI or state background check? But i also saw another schools requirement and they do an online check and that requires a ssn!

I do have a Id so i guess the FBI check wont be a problem? Im barly a senior in high school and this is a really stressful time! lol

Nope, the FBI or PD check shouldn't be a problem if you have an ID. Be warned, though, that the FBI clearance takes at least eight weeks before you receive the results.

I think for the online background checks you can use your ITIN, but I'm not too sure about that.

Good luck!

You still get a SSN even if you came here with a tourist visa.

It use to be possible becuase my dad got me one for Tax purposes when I was around 8, but that was in 1998. I heard they dont do that anymore though. They just give them to people with legal entry now; thats why people are using ITIN to pay their taxes now.

Yup,that SSN giving thing to tourists is over long ago. They don't do that anymore. If u apply for an i.d., DMV will indicate the range of date in the i.d. as given to u by the consul upon entry. So to make it short, it will be a short validity range printed on the i.d.
