Sup guys,

So a few days ago my friend e-mailed me (co-author at another University) some good news. He told me that our paper that we had been working on with a certain professor (for about a yr, while I was an Undergraduate ME student) had been accepted for publication. Actually, it had been accepted quite a few months ago but it took quite a bit of time for the paper to actually be In Press (which it finally is now). The paper was accepted to the journal of Applied Mathematics and Computation; a very good journal in the topic of computational and applied math. The subject area was in FEM, if anyone was curious of knowing.

I was thinking about putting this happy achievement on my resume? What do you guys think? We obviously can't work yet, but I was thinking it would look good for future markets, for if and when I decide to move to a different country or back to my home country, Mexico. I would hope it would help me (at least a little) in landing a job in the future. ; )

Damn!! nice job!!

Definitely you should put it in your resume!!! my friend is a physics student and she has co-authored like 4 papers! The silly thing is that she is 19, yep 19 and she is doing her Ph.D

FEM, I would be interested in reading your paper. FEM is one of my things too! Even though I am not so good at it. I do play around with Abaqus on my computer.

Man, we should talk more about this subjects in the forum. It makes joyous to know that there are people here that love the things I love!

Did you write it using LaTeX?

We should enable LaTeX in DA forum haha.

Congrats! That's such exciting news. I've thought of publishing also, and collaborating with some friends of mine who are working on some research articles. What was the process like? Did you have to give SSN or any type of documents that we may not have?

And definitely put in on your resume! It's a great accomplishment!

I love hearing about DREAMers doing big things with their lives. Way to make yourself, and all of us look great. Seriously though, so cool!

Thanks,

Publishing is actually easier than a lot you guys might think. As soon as i get a little bit more free time I'll give you guys some good tips, that quite possible might put other dreamers on the road to publishing as well. Key thing is finding professors you would be interested in working with (due to their line of research) and working on projects with them for free. It's a win-win situation, you gain a little bit of experience in a field you are really interested in, possibly publish a paper, and build a long term relationship with a mentor. And no, you don't have to be a 4.0 student (or even a 3.0 student for that matter) to be successful, you just got to be really interested in a certain topic of research.

A professor once told me, "You know what the 'P' in PhD is for?"... "Persistence."
