The "ONLY" accepted driver license in California is a CA DL or any other DL from the other 49 USA states, IDP are not accepted as DL in California read the California Driver hand book it does specify this information.

International License will work, but it must be from the country of origin. So if you have English licence, the international license will work only if it was made in England.

Try the Philippine embassy? If not at least they can give you some information as to where to go to get one

IDPs are valid and recognized anywhere, but the problem with it is that people assume you have a valid papers that goes with it, mostly because it is used by tourists....or new migrants...who either haven't been in the country long enough to get a state DL, or was sent by an international company for a brief assignment less than 6 months. It is not a bad idea to get them if you can, but just know that if you are stopped and showed an IDP, there is a risk that you will be asked for more documents (visa).

This is incorrect. It says that the IDP is not valid [by itself], however a foreign license is valid as a driver's license in CA. And seeing as an IDP is a direct translation of what is on a foreign DL, then just have both of them on you and you're good to go.

International Driving Permits

The State of California does not recognize an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a valid driver license. California does recognize a valid driver license that is issued by a foreign jurisdiction (country, state, territory) of which the license holder is a resident.

The IDP is only a translation of information contained on a person’s foreign driver license and is not required to operate a motor vehicle in California. Citations issued to a person in California who has an IDP, but does not have a California driver license will be placed on the Department of Motor Vehicle database.

The IDP is also called an International Driver License, International License, etc.

I got my license "made in India" with the help of relatives and some green American dollars.
