Hey everyone.

I've been an atheist for a good eight months now and feel so free. Your whole life changes when you view the world through a different perspective.

Wondering If any other dreamers are atheists. It'd be nice knowing i'm not the only atheist. It's tough being latino, atheist, illegal and an introvert here in NYC. lol.

p.s.

Just like I respect other peoples' beliefs, I'd really appreciate some mutual respect from the opposing, religious side.

I'll leave you with a funny image

I'm an atheist, I'm also a DREAMer.

One has not caused the other.

A lot of the people here are college students, of course a lot will be atheists. Religion loses its grip when it goes against truth and knowledge.

I am an atheist btw.

I have been an atheist since I was 15 (currently 1. Christians have their whole idea of "prayer" set up in a way it's foolproof. Here is how it goes.

1. Pray.
2. Did you get what you want? If yes, go to step 5.
3. Wait 50 years. Did you get what you want? If yes, go to step 5.
4. If you still didn't get what you want, god has a plan for you. Go to step 5.
5. Thank God.

I almost made it on the front page of /r/atheism on Reddit with this comic:

http://i.imgur.com/YeBSb.png - Here are some comments on the picture.

And the whole thing is flawed too, if God is going to do what is right, why the hell would you bother praying in the first place? If the children in Africa deserved food, don't you think God would have given it to them already? (I am not saying that African children don't deserve food, it's just the way you have to explain it to those in the Christian delusion).

I recommend you read "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. It was the first book I bought for my Kindle.

Don't even get me started on thanking god (not even going to capitalize the damn word any more) instead of the undocumented hispanic workers picking your food. Or instead of thanking your doctors. In fact, if you believe in a god, he is probably answering the prayers of the southern baptists to not give you legal status, how does that make you feel?

I used to be an agnostic at most, just because someone is a college student does not mean they will lose religion. for me it was the opposite used to be agnostic and now lean more toward religion, not because i am trying to escape reality as you might think but because it actually does make sense. If you take things literal a lot of things cannot be proven not even some theories in science. Such as big bang, love, etc

As far as bible making sense think about it. Orgies, lying, adultery, stealing are frown upon both by bible and society.

I believe science and religion actually back each other up. Incest is prohibited in the bible: there is a biological possibility offspring with physical anomalies. Orgy and coveting someone elses partner is also looked down upon, when done too much can result in sexually transmitted diseases check out aids. I see a lot of correlations between science and religion and dont think one disproves the other.

Most of my successful friends are actually somewhat religious and they are doing extremely well (medical, nursing, dental, schools and also businesses etc ). I dont believe in coincidences or predestination either. But success and failure are ultimately ones own doing, as in business when someone is successful they must be doing something right(yeah they studied a lot, bible tells you not to be idle lol).

Some atheist friends just have one and lets just say hes not doing good at all. Cannot talk more about this friend not right to judge.

One last thing, i used to despise religion. Because of People preaching about it doing bs things, that is what turned me off at first. But then noticed that those people are doing exactly the opposite of what is actually written. And learned to distinguish between BS and truth. Overall stay away from those fake religious people, given the chance they will be the first to steal, cheat, lie and other BS. They are very opportunistic people who will take advantage of anyone who is innocent or dumb enough to believe in them.

I am latino, dreamer, and lets somewhat religious.

Dreamer title will end soon, and somewhat too. There are things and situations that we cannot control but can alter it by the choices we make.

I like to go by Nietczche's Ubermensch. Basically, having your own thoughts, establishing a moral code using reason but without absolutes, and overcoming nihilism.

I'm not completely atheist because I am open to the idea of there being a higher power out there, but not in the biblical sense of a god who intervenes, listens to your prayers, or parts the red sea for you. I just dont believe in organized religion, because at the end of the day, it was created by man and it has a lot of flaws. Furthermore, the biblical scriptures were written in a time when people didnt have knowledge of science hence why you see all those crazy stories like "noahs ark" or a "virgin birth". In my opinion though its not wise to completely rule out the existence of a higher power because the universe, the earth are both beautiful places and it really didnt have to be like that.

That's exactly what the founding fathers of this country believed.
