Quick question...

NJ has a 6points system for driver's license. EAD counts for 3 points only.

In order to get the remaining points, I would need to show college ID and transcript. I'm 26 and I've been out of school for four years. I called the NJ DMV to verify whether or it was to use my transcripts and my old college ID card for points.

The answer was no. For those of you who are going to do that, it needs to be from within two years of graduation. I graduated in 2008 so I'm out.

If there is anyone in the same predicament, what is your strategy? My best bet is to go to NY and get a license. I have a relative over there and can just live with her and get this license thing squared away. I also have other relatives in other states, but they don't seem immigrant friendly.

Any advice??

Maybe after you get your NY license you can state that you have moved to NJ and go on from there with your proof of address?

Nope since I would still need to show the 6 points in order to transfer the license.

It says that you can use two of the one point documents, did you consider that?

Yep, I did! But you need a total of 6 points. What that means is that the EAD counts for 3 points and I can get the other two 1-point documents for a total of 5 points. You can't use three 1-point documents. You are ONLY allowed two.

Now I need the one last point and that's impossible since I would have to get it from either the two point, three point (which I only have one of), or the four point (which I don't qualify for).

For us, we would have to get the EAD, one 2-point document (college or high school), and a 1-point document

Just sign up for a class at Community college... as last resort...

See if your school has an alumni association. Those usually have ID cards associated with them, that the issuing institution is usually the school. This, of course, assuming that it's a college you graduated from. Otherwise, I'd do what Bernoulli said and register for a community college course, get an id, then withdraw from the course in time to get a refund.

Just a question, but how are you planning on getting the EAD if you have no other form of documentation (passport, etc)?

NJ DMV is explicit that you NEED to have a transcript that goes with the ID card.

I have the ID card, but my transcript shows my graduation date.

That might cost money that I might not have... I'll look into it though since I'm not sure what type of requirements that they have about entering in (I've already graduated with my bachelor's).

Just sign up and drop. Also, many people who graduated can take a class. For example I took a class on how to fix transmissions, even though I already have a B.S.

It was like 200 dollar class... a DL from your state is worth it if necessary. Like it was mentioned before, you might even be able to drop.
