on my check i put "Department of Homeland Security"

forgot the "U.S." part in front of it

That is a major mistake. Your application will probably get denied without a right to appeal.

They're pretty strict on what needs to be written. My guess is they'll accept the check but worst case scenario they'll return the package and you'll just rewrite the title.

I'm sure they know the check is for them. You were not sending that check to Mexico.... Worst case scenario they will request another check before processing your application. Don't let idiots like chessmaster05 scare you.
