For those of you that worked under the table, did you put it on your resume of the years you worked? Or only when you got your SS. I wanna start finding a new job and im afraid that when I do find that job, they will call my boss and find out that i put the days i worked under the table

I worked under the table for a company for 8 years. I put them on my resume and still got hired by a new company getting a check. They most likely didn't call my previous employer but from what I was told, they will just call and ask your previous employer if you were a good worker, trustworthy etc. So if your previous boss really liked you, then I'm sure s/he will put in a good word for you. I doubt they will ask ask your previous employer if you were paid in cash.

Usually when employers call for reference checks, they can only ask if you are hireable. The issue is that if you were getting paid under the table and your boss doesn't want to get in trouble, he could simply deny that you ever worked for him. Might be better for you to call him or let him know that you're trying to get a job and that you want to use your previous job with him as reference.

Why wouldnt you? After all what your new potential employer is looking for is your experience and responsibility? ... Unless you were known by a whole completely name at your "under the table" jobs i dont see a reason why you wouldnt put it on your resume.

I don't know if it's true or not but I have an understanding that employers are not suppose to say more than a simple yes or no when a future employer is asking the previous employer would rehire you. I think it is illegal for any old employer to go off about why you were a bad employee and what not. So even if your employer doesn't like you they can't hurt your prospects of getting another job. To me, it sounds like your old boss has more to lose than you do if he lies about you. So I would put it on your resume because it is knowledge and experience that you have gained from that previous job. And honestly, the chances of employers doing reference checks are usually 50-50 if not less.
