Go to a SS office, bring your EAD and a birth certificate/passport. The clerk may or may not ask you questions regarding whether you ever used a ss number, got insurance, or credit card and such. It seems to be quite random and doesn't seems to effect the chance of you receiving the card.

Follow these steps. They are very straight forward. This is the easiest part of DACA. While DACA and the EAD took several months, it should take no more than 2 weeks for your Social to arrive in the mail. It says so on the receipt letter they give you.

Also, If you can't find your birth certificate, just a passport is fine. Go into an office in person, but expect to be there at least an hour. Check your local times. The first time I went in I went at 3:30pm, I assumed the office closed at 5. Apparently they have some new policy that requirs them to close at 3pm, at least in my area.

Clerk saw my EAD and C33 and was like "oh cool, another DACA applicant?"

Then he made a photocopy of my birth certificate and chatted with me about russian literature while filling out the forms on the computer.

*waves WTF flag*

^LOL.

When I went to apply, the guy there took my EAD and Birth Certificate, then he continued to enter the information into the computer while talking about how some black homeless lady had gone in and was being racist towards him.

I was like, what.

If you think about it, being a SSN person you must meet some REALLY weird people. Like the kind of people that get kept at home under lock and key since the family doesn't want to let them out... after all, everyone must visit the SSN office some time.

** - You can also obtain the form at the office, but it's probably better to just fill it out at home, being able to type in the information and having plenty of time to re-check everything over and over again.

All documents used must be the originals, or certified copies.

You should receive the SS card within 2 weeks. Usually you can also obtain a print out of your number within 2-3 days if you go visit the social security office again. Some states accept print-outs, others require the physical card. A partial list of which states accept or do not accept them can be found here.

Bring the birth certificate! At the Wilshire / Wilton office in Los Angeles. They prefer the birth certificate. If you don't have it, they make you wait 10 days before accepting your application. I was really pissed of after waiting nearly two hours since I only brought the passport.

They cited the following:
Quote:
You must present your foreign birth certificate if you have it or can get it within 10 days. If not, we will consider other documents such as your passport or a document issued by DHS as evidence of your age.
http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm

They even gave me a print out of that page.
