Stats like that are pretty much common knowledge/sense. If you don't want to get a degree in today's world, of course you will be unemployed. It's not all the economy's fault. It's not some entity that's screwing people over. It's people that are screwing over the economy.

There are too many people who are not suited for college but still go for the sake of getting a degree, any degree. A bachelor degree is now a minimum requirement for most of the work position because people had devalue it so much.

I think it happened because the college professors started passing every Tom, Dick and Harry. Also, the influx of useless majors.

I've heard this doom and gloom ever since I was a kid and somehow the human race has survived. I think college graduates as a whole are much more well rounded because they've been forced to think outside of the box and be outside of their comfort zone. Did I give a rat's ass about philosophy and art history before college? No, but it forced me to learn about it and it was actually very interesting even if it didn't have to do with my major.

Is everybody meant for college? No, but even if you plan on being an AC guy for the rest of your life, it would be helpful to at least go to a technical college for a couple of years and/or take some extra classes. I have known many plumbers, electricians, AC guys, etc. who could own their own business or at least work for a company making a lot of money if it weren't for the fact that they were basically illiterate and couldn't put two sentences together. It's not completely unfair either because a homeowner who trusts their house to you, would want someone that comes across as intelligent to come to their house and like it or not, most people can tell how intelligent you are after only talking to you for a few minutes.

It reminds me of the movie The Flamingo Kid where the dad tells the something like son "You can be a plumber like me, but you'll be a plumber with a college degree".

That's kind of a line I tell myself a lot ..."Sure I'm a XXXXX but at least I'm a XXXXX with 2 college degrees".
