Ok so here is my situation guys I just turned 20, and I've been going to a CC part time for a year.

-My mom and dad dont file their taxes and only my dad works.
-My parents make me file my little brother as my dependent when its time to file for taxes, so we can get money....
-I applied two years ago for FASFA, but then they made me apply to a paper form which I think was TASFA, so then they called me from the financial aid office and said that I dont qualify because my dad doesnt pay his taxes, she also asked me 'why do you file for income taxes, just because you have a SSN'? I didnt know what to say because I'm not sure its ok to file my little brother as my dependent .

So does the fact that my dad doesn't pay his taxes, and that I file my little brother as my dependent pretty much screw me over? Because I hear we actually qualify for TASFA, but I don't know the requirements.
Thanks

You would have to apply for tasfa as independent student and your income will be considered instead of your parents.

I was an independent student (no dependents tho) and only my income was considered for tasfa
