I'm going to be traveling to Hawaii this coming May for my boyfriend's bday and I was wondering whether it is safe to travel from the mainland just with the state issued ID?

yeah, just don't bring a passport just in case they find one on you and look for a visa. Which state ID do you have?

Damn my first thought was this may be slightly more risky than traveling within mainland. Whatever you do, take caution and be well prepared. Good luck!

Nah, unless you really look suspicious or given a random inspection you're good. Let's not forget that most people in Hawaii are minorities. I got checked extra for having liquids in my luggage and they just made me open it and x-rayed it more, did some substance testing on my hands. I'm guessing it's for explosives or whatever. I got kinda nervous to be honest cause if they fingerprinted me I would come up in the federal database. haha

Just make sure not to bring more than 3 oz of liquids and put personal amenities like lotions, soaps and medicines on a separate zip lock back.
