Many Republicans were surprised or even shocked that the # 2 Republican Trent Lott voted for the Dream Act, despite McConnels objections.. Lott's vote was one of the last ones on the floor, does anyone think if he would of voted much earlier at the beginning of the vote, other Republicans would of followed his lead?

Well Domenici surely would since he changed his vote (most likely once he saw that it didn't matter).

there are still some mysteries we don't know yet, like if Durbin was wiling to compromise why didn't he make that official ? if he was willing to compromise why didn't Reid allow more debates ? so it's like we are willing to make some compromise but we are not going to have a debate about it ? doesn't make much sense to me. I think something is brewing. The idea that we had like we should get student visas and working permit instead of green card are good compromises, but we will see..

We should contact Mr. Durbin and let him know that we are willing to get rid of the citizenship part of the bill and that we are willing to accept a student visa, and we will still have to pay out of state tuition. All we want is be able to continue our education.

I know he's trying to get as much as he can out of it, but republicans won't give up.

I think Durbin should try again next year. we got key Republicans like Lott and Hutchison.

We just need to encourage him to keep fighting.

Yeah but he really needs to make some changes to the bill, like making it look not a reward for illegals even when we have no foult on our own.

Although CIR has no chance this coming year, it's not the same for Dream. I mean, a watered down version of Dream could have a chance next year. But seriously you guys, we got to do a lot more this coming year if we decide to keep fighting for Dream. Yea, it's important to call but we have to do more than that. I have a few ideas but I'll discuss them with you guys later.

The one thing we should all agree on is that we have to be more organized. Let the failure of Dream this year serve as motivation to become more active and organized in the future.

I totally disagree, no matter how much this bill is changed you will not be able to convince those in the opposition who believe it is a "reward" that it is not. This bill is fine how it is right now, if you are interested in changing the perception of those who regard us as criminals then please do that by directly working with/against them, but do not think for a second it will happen by making this bill less effective.

In my book someone is not a criminal until they do something intentionally against the law and/or when they have the option to change their status they do not do so. We have neither committed a crime nor have we EVER had the option to change our status, therefore, we cannot be labeled as criminal and/or illegal. If any system, as the current one does, allows for such labeling then it is simply a broken system that must be addressed and fixed.

Realize we are in the right here and please make sure every one of your post reflect just that.

The issue here is not the Dream Act, the issue here is those who do not feel the system is broken and feel that it is okay to call us criminals and treat us as such. The solution here is NOT to change the Dream Act (once again), the solution is to convince the general population that the current system is flawed and needs fixing.
