Astrive Student Loans - Do you think they know how you spend the money?
Do they actually know how you spend it I mean they do send you a check is this just advice then ? -

http://www.astrivestudentloans.com/s...dent_loans.asp

Borrowing smart means borrowing only what you need and using the money only for what it’s intended. And since Astrive Student Loans are for the express purpose of helping you get the most out of your college education, they can only be used for education-related expenses. And what does that include?

What follows is a partial list of the things your loan can and can’t be used for. Use it as a guideline.

Yes, You Can
Tuition
Room & Board
Lab Fees
Computer & Accessories
Travel home
Studying abroad
------------------------------...
No, You Can’t
Car payments
Laundry/Dry Cleaning
Doctor’s visits
Spring break
Extra dorm furniture
Athletic tickets

hey Tasksgirl, the page does not work

Also, do you know if undocumented students can apply for this loan, with a citizen/resident co-borrower of course?

Thanks Tasksgirl

I'm a foreign student attending a U.S. school. Can I still apply for an Astrive Student Loan?
Yes. In order to be approved, you'll need to apply with a creditworthy co-signer who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and who has resided in the U.S. for the previous two years.
I fixed the link.. so does anyone know??

But I still can't figure out if they know how you spend it..
Well I tried applying so let's see what they say.. I have a pretty good salary for a student and OK credit I guess so I'll see what happens with no co-signer lol.
I want to have my debts paid off for when DREAM passes and I can buy my baby an ACURA RSX !!!!

I applied for a loan at teri.org, which was recommended by my school for "international students". I applied, got a good co-signer, and the loan was approved. The only thing though, towards the end, they asked me to send in papers that show that I am legally here in the United States to be a student.

This is what they said:

Quote:
We require international students with qualified cosigners to either have an F1, I-20, M1, J1, or an I-94 that states Conditional Entrant, Asylee, or Refugee. These are the only forms we can accept. If you do not have one of these we will be unable to process a loan request.
So, no loan for me. I know that you guys are talking about Astrive.com, but when I clicked on "Apply Now!", you can read that TERI is part of Astrive also, so the whole process with the papers may be the same. Same goes for collegeloan.com. The application for the loan was exactly the same for all three.

You guys can still try it though, maybe it'll be different. Hopefully, it'll be different. Good luck.

They denied me ONLY because of my length of residence. I tried to explain that I just got out of the military and that part of the military lifestyle is moving a lot. I also explained that I was stationed in Biloxi, MS where Hurricane Katrina messed up my house, so that was another reason I have moved so much. The lady basically told me that it doesn't matter, if you haven't lived at the same residence for 12 months, you need a cosigner. I told her I don't have one. So, there are no special circumstances. I said that it's pretty messed up that they don't give loans to military people and she said that it's not that they don't give loans to military people, they don't give loans to people unless they lived in the same place for 12 months. So I told her, military people don't live in the same place for more than 12 months, so basically, they don't give loans to military people. I was really trying to not be rude to her, but I think it is BS.
