My husband got approved almost 2 months ago, and we feel much better about planning our future, so we both plan on going back to school. This past year has been rough- he was unemployed until June, then I was laid off in July, and although I just got a job again, it really showed us how crucial having an education is! I've filled out my FAFSA and qualify for a good hunk of a Pell Grant, my employer will pay for about 5k of school, and the rest wouldn't be much, but how will we pay for him to go to school if he can't qualify for federal student aid? How have you other DREAMers managed to put yourselves through school (specifically in CA)? How much did you have to pay out-of-pocket? What scholarships or aid were you able to get? We don't make a lot and have a 7-month-old baby, so I'm hoping we can at least afford to go back to school.

A little background: my husband graduated with Honors from HS in 2007 and got accepted into CalState Fullerton and CalState Long Beach right after HS (the only 2 schools he applied for, even though he didn't go because he didn't know how he would pay for it). He's looking to go to school for a BS in mechanical engineering. We made about $48k combined last year, my FAFSA estimated family contribution was 1010.
I'll be doing my own research as well, and I'll post findings on this thread. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I thought DACA recipients couldn't get federal aid (Pell Grant is). In my case, I've had to pay for everything, the only help I've gotten is to pay in-state tuition in Texas.

glgutierrez0506, did you fill out "I am an eligible noncitizen" for FAFSA? DACA does not grant you a legal status and you are not an eligible noncitizen for FAFSA purposes.

Does your husband qualify for AB540, non-resident tuition exemption? If yes, continue reading. Assuming he'll start Fall 2014, go ahead and fill out the California Dream Act application once he processes this year's taxes. Since he'll be doing a bachelors, he would qualify for Cal Grants and CSU State University Grants.
