I got married a little bit before I applied for DACA (husband not USC yet). Since I didn't have any with my new last name on it (besides marriage certificate), my lawyer suggested that I apply with my birth name but state that I was married. Anyways, now I want to change my name and she said everything should be fine, and I don't see any problems neither... Just wondering if anyone else is doing that.

About that, that lawyer isn't aware of the complications that could cause? Anyway.. heres a little story.. personal experience. This person sent their application with their married last name and guess what... they haven't processes or even charged the money. Its been close to 30 days, their EAD expires in August, their going to fall out of status because they wanted to change their last name. This isn't the DMV. Get your new EAD with the same last name. and then apply for a change of name. Perhaps if you send in proof of your name of change with this person did not do it could stream the process for you.

Is changing one's name really that big of a priority? I never got that.

It depends on the person.

Yeah as far as I'm concerned you start our with SSN and then move on to DMV and such... it's a process.. There are websites that will tell you exactly what you do for $40 i believe. They help you stay organized etc.. I think there's one called msnowmrs.com..

Philosophical questions about having not one but two names given to one from a man and no self identity aside, for a person who's undocumented, this shouldn't be a big priority as anything that can complicate her paperwork should be the biggest priority.

Last Friday (8/16) I sent my renewal package with my husband's last name. On Monday they received it, on Wednesday I got the text, and today (8/23) I got the confirmation letters in the mail with my new last name! Happy! Not difficult at all. I'm glad I did it. All I sent was a cover letter explaining that I wished to change my name and I also sent a copy of my marriage certificate.
