Anyone here in NY renewed their Driver License after getting their DACA renewal?

My Driver License expires in 2017, but it has my old temporary visitor expiration of October 2014.

I would prefer to mail in my renewal application, and not miss a work day to go to the DMV, so I was wondering if anyone was able to send in the renewal application and included copies of their new EAD?

Some people tell me not to bother renewing as the temp visitor expiration that is printed on the card means nothing and I can just keep using this Driver License until 2017.

But I would prefer to get a new one with the new temporary visitor expiration showing in September 2016 (My new EAD expiration)

Is this something that HAS to be done in person at the DMV, or can I just mail in the renewal form with copies of the EAD?

BTW, I tried renewing online, but it gives me an error message stating that my Driver License still has over 1 year still left before it expires, so technically it is saying I don't need to renew...

...BUT, when I tried to order a replacement driver license online (I was hoping they would send me my replacement driver license that would magically show my September 2016 temporary visitor expiration) it gave me an error saying my temporary visitor status has expired.

My temp visitor expired on Oct 24. I received my new work permit expiration on Sept 25. To be honest the DMV place is one block away my job but I'm too lazy to fill out application and waiting in line so I did some trial, since my hasn't expired yet I went ahead and apply for replacement online. I really hope the new EAD expiration magically appears on it cause it would save a lot of time if not then there goes my $17.50. Loll

From what I know, you have to renewal your NY Driver License with you New EAD.

I have ask my mother's friend who work at DMV several months before my temp visitor expires on Oct 14, 2014. He told me if you do not renewal your DL with a 2016 Date, if anything happened police going to send you to immigration office because of the expires date on your DL.

So, I go to the DMV near my house and waited about 90 minutes and ask the DMV worker what should I do because my DL have 2 expires date. Can I use my DL till 2017, she said no because I do not have a green card that why they put the "temp visitor expires date" on my DL. She said I have to pay $12.50 and wait for 2 weeks for my New expires 2016 DL, and she gave me the "Interim License" when I am waiting for the New one to come in the mail.

And I have ask her what about renewal online because my sister temp visitor DL going to expires on December. She said you have to come in person to show them the new EAD card to change the expires date on you DL.

Hope I can help anyone here, please let us know can we renewal our DL by mail.
Thanks.

In person it is then, lol.

Also is renewing the temp visitor part of the DL quick?

Do I just wait in line and then show them the new EAD?

Or do I have to get the DL renewal form, fill it out, bring all documents, then get in line, then give them everything?

When you get in to the DMV and the worker going to ask you what you need to do, they going to give you a ticket with a number (it said you going to renewal your DL) and the DL form.
Fill out the form and wait for your turn, going to the counter and show the DMV worker your new EAD with your old DL.

They will check your form and writing down your new EAD expires date. BTW, on top of the form you should check the "change" because they going to update your new temp visitor expires date and change you just $12.50.

Thats it and wait for 2 weeks for your new DL.

Thank you for the information.
Have you received your new license yet? I know there was change in design (to transparent plastic). Will it still say TEMP VISITOR in red is my question. Any idea?

No more red. It will be in black bolded. Not very visible. Way much better than the old RED one

Old thread, but did any of you guys get your license renewed?

I just checked the NYS DMV site and it says

"The Temporary Visitor status will include the date your INS documents expire. However, your DMV document itself will not expire on the Temporary Visitor expiration date, nor will your permission to drive."

So I don't know... Link: http://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/renew-license
